Diablo 4 players need all the help they can get while playing Season of the Malignant. Luckily for them, there’s a special item that isn’t discussed much but can be crucial to get unique items, and they’re called Mutterlock Chests.
Mutterlock Chests randomly appear on Sanctuary’s map and need players to solve a puzzle in order to unlock them. These chests usually drop Sacred or Ancestral items that can be the key to getting your best character build or to defeat one of the many bosses in the Diablo 4 endgame. Here’s what you need to know about Mutterlock Chests in Diablo 4 Season 1.
What are Mutterlock Chests in Diablo 4?
Mutterlock Chests are extremely rare chests that can be found in Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4. They have the same look as Silent Chests, but you won’t need a specific key to open them. Instead, these objects will ask you to solve a puzzle to unlock them.
Wanderers have to be very careful when trying to open Mutterlock Chests in Diablo 4; if they give a wrong answer, the chest will close and disappear forever. However, if players get the answer right, these chests usually drop lots of Gold and Sacred or Ancestral items.
How to open Mutterlock Chests in Diablo 4?
In order to open a Mutterlock Chest in Diablo 4, players will need to interact with it to get a puzzle. This interaction will open a dialogue box with a list of Latin phrases that players need to choose from to repeat back to the chest. If players choose the wrong phrase, the chest will disappear forever.
BlizzardLuckily, players will have some help to get the answer right. Three Whispering Stones with inscriptions will spawn around the chest location and can be found simply by searching the area. To get the full answer, players will need to collect the inscriptions in this order:
- Birth Inscription
- Life Inscription
- Death Inscription.
Be aware that even if the written text will be in English, the Latin translation given by the stones will appear on the bottom right of your screen. Muttering the answer back to the chest will turn it into a Resplendent Chest and will allow it to open.
