Diablo 4 lets you access high-level Sacred and Ancestral items in World Tier 3 and World Tier 4, respectively. Diablo 4 Season 1 will remove the unrealistic level caps on Sacred and Ancestral items, so here’s how it can help you build several characters simultaneously.

All Diablo games have remained relevant for years after release because there are multiple classes and endless ways to build each class. On top of this, frequent seasons introduce new themes, mechanics, and enemies to keep things fresh for players.

Diablo 4 is no exception and the first season for Blizzard’s fastest-selling game of all time is almost here. A massive update containing Season 1 content will arrive on July 18 and luckily, there are a bunch of quality-of-life changes you can look forward to as well.

Here’s how the Diablo 4 Season 1 update will change the character-building process by introducing level caps for Sacred and Ancestral items.

Diablo 4 Sacred and Ancestral items get new level caps

Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4
Sacred and Ancestral items are quite rare in Diablo 4.

While talking to German gaming magazine Gamestar, Diablo 4 Associate Game Director Joe Piepiora revealed that they’re introducing the following level caps in Season 1:

  • Sacred items are capped at level 60.
  • Ancestral items are capped at level 80.

After this update, all your Diablo 4 characters above level 60 can use Sacred items that you get in World Tier 3. On the flip side, all characters above level 80 will be able to use Ancestral items that drop while exploring World Tier 4.

Originally, the level of loot in the game was based on the character you’re playing currently and we’ll explain why this was a problem below.

Importance of level caps for Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4

Without level caps for Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4, a lot of high-level loot became useless during the endgame.

For instance, if you get an amazing Ancestral/Sacred item but it requires your character to be above level 80, 90, or even 100, there’s no point storing that item in your stash for alternative characters because there’s a chance that you’ll get something equally good/better while leveling your alternative character to 80, 90, or 100.

However, with the level cap, storing Sacred and Ancestral items for your alternative characters can be worthwhile as you’ll be able to use them at levels 60 and 80, respectively. Many players believe that the level cap should be even lower because reaching levels 60 and 80 takes a lot of time but this is still a step in the right direction by the developers.

That was everything to know about the upcoming level caps for Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4. We hope this change helps you build your alternative characters with ease, and for more guidance, you can check out:
