XDefiant is Ubisoft’s new FPS game, which sees a mashup of characters from their popular titles battling it out in a class-based arena shooter environment. Here’s what you need to know, including XDefiant’s official release window.

Ubisoft has been working on its new FPS game XDefiant for a few years now, and the game’s concept of connecting their video game universe together in an arena shooter is an exciting prospect. The game features Factions with abilities that span across games like Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and even The Division.

After being revealed in 2021, Ubisoft have had two playtests which have not only allowed players to get a taste of the title early but also provided data for the devs to make necessary changes and additions.

XDefiant release window confirmed

XDefiant is slated to be released between late September to early-mid October 2023. This release window comes after an update from Mark Rubin on September 11, which confirmed the game’s release had been delayed due to not passing submission.

However, Mark Rubin confirmed that the devs are working hard to get the game out “as soon as they can.”

This release window is given that the new submission passes its checks and is cleared for release, if not, players could be waiting another month for the title to officially launch, as the devs confirmed it was meant to drop in late August before it failed to pass submission.

XDefiant platforms

XDefiant will be available on the following platforms:

  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PlayStation 5
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One

XDefiant will launch as a free-to-play title on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Those on the previous generation of consoles will have to wait as the devs confirmed that they are working on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game and they will come out after launch.

XDefiant gameplay details

Players will find that the gameplay from the new game focuses on individuals using different Factions that include specific traits, abilities, and ultras to defeat their opponents. These Factions and their abilities are all inspired by other Ubisoft titles such as Far Cry and Splinter Cell.

The arcade and fast-paced nature of the game’s gameplay will likely be popular among players who enjoy Call of Duty’s style of play. The developers of the game also stated in the reveal video that gun gameplay will be their main focus and that it will be the most important factor in winning and losing.

XDefiant trailers

This reveal video gave players a first look at what they can expect when they jump into the new game and a rundown of various aspects by a couple of the game’s developers including Mark Rubin, who worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Ghosts as a member of Infinity Ward.

The devs have since released various trailers, including a gameplay trailer, a game overview, and even a beta showcase.
