XDefiant’s Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, has shared a new update on the state of the FPS game heading into the new year, providing promising information on various aspects of the Call of Duty competitor.

XDefiant is one of the most anticipated FPS games along with The Finals, offering players an alternative multiplayer experience to Call of Duty.

While the release was initially set for Q4 of 2023, the game was delayed and is still yet to receive a release date. The devs have been very transparent with the game’s development and journey to launch, especially Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, who shared yet another update on December 5, 2023.

In the update, he stated that they have been “progressing really well,” and will be “spending the rest of the year finishing up” aspects of the game such as “the new Party System, the new netcode changes,” and switching their servers “over to Linux.”

Rubin went into detail regarding each of these elements of XDefiant, calling the Party System the “main blocker for launch.”

In the post, Rubin stated that XDefiant “can’t go live if people can’t party up with their friends,” and due to issues with crossplay in the playtest, they have decided to implement a “new Party System that is being used in other Ubisoft games and has been proven to work in a crossplay environment.”

The Executive Producer also shared an update on the netcode, addressing a “critical bug” that has now been fixed, as well as the move to Linus servers, which Rubin claimed will “improve some server stability and moving the servers will provide “server stability as well as make servers scale up and down to handle load much, much faster.”

This all sounds very promising, and the community are clearly excited for launch, as one comment under the post read: “These updates are great and informative. We love the transparency! I’m looking forward to playing XDefiant in 2024!”

As we get closer to the new year, we’ll likely hear more and more about XDefiant, as a release date must be close. For now, check out whether XDefiant will have skill-based matchmaking.
