Will there be an XDefiant Battle Royale?

Ubisoft’s XDefiant is the latest FPS looking to steal the crown away from Call of Duty, but will it also add a battle royale mode later down the line? Here’s everything we know.
XDefiant has made quite a splash in the first-person-shooter community, with its closed beta being enjoyed by over a million players. Content creators like FaZe Jev already feel it could overtake CoD titles like Modern Warfare 2, thanks to its early use of Ranked Play and unique factions.
But following Call of Duty’s success with Warzone and its sequel, many players are wondering if XDefiant will also enter the battle royale market when it gets a full release. Here’s everything we know about an XDefiant battle royale.
Is an XDefiant battle royale in development?
The developers have confirmed XDefiant will not feature a battle royale when it launches, and it doesn’t appear that there are any plans to add the mode in the future.
In a tweet from February 2023, Ubisoft Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, mentioned that XDefiant will remain a CoD multiplayer-style shooter going forward.
He said: “The team and I at Ubisoft are making a multiplayer FPS called XDefiant. We are solely focused on making a great and fun arena shooter. No BR. And we’re not moving on to a new game after this. We are going to keep making this game better and better! That is all.”

While many fans will no doubt be disappointed that XDefiant won’t be getting its own battle royale mode, Rubin did confirm that other fan-requested modes are in the works, such as one-life playlists similar to Search and Destroy or Cyber Attack from Modern Warfare 2.
Following the breakout success of games like PUBG and Fortnite, FPS franchises have tried to create their own take on the battle royale genre. Battlefield V brought the Firestorm mode, and reports have suggested that a Halo BR is also in development.
However, it seems that the XDefiant devs are happy to stick to an arena shooter for the foreseeable future. If the plans change, we’ll be sure to update this page with the latest details.
