Peace hasn’t lasted long for the Diablo 4 devs, since players have found an astonishing exploit that allows them to clone gold and items. Here’s what happened with Diablo’s 4 trading exploit.

Blizzard announced that they had to shut down trading in Diablo 4 after players discovered a way to multiply gold and precious items. The devs also confirmed that any users using this exploit would be at risk of being banned from the game.

The exploit occurred even after the 1.1.2 update, when a player initiated a trade with another and forced the Diablo 4 client to close when dropping the items in the trade slot. When the player logged back into the game, the items that were traded would appear in the original player’s inventory while also remaining in the other player’s inventory.

Diablo 4 trading exploit duplicated any items and gold traded by players.

While Diablo 4 players were usually able to trade different types of items, gold, gems, and Elixirs, Blizzard were forced to remove the mechanic entirely in order to fix the exploit. “Once that is done, we will continue to monitor this activity to ensure a healthy playing experience for all,” Blizzard explained.

The devs also confirmed that players that “accidentally” found this duplication exploit while trading won’t be sanctioned, although players found using this method multiple times could potentially receive a ban.

“As always, any account that engages in gold and item duplication exploits will be actioned in accordance with our End User License Agreement,” explained Blizzard in their official Reddit post.

It’s not the first time that the Diablo franchise has suffered from duplication exploits, since Diablo 2 was famous for the “Dupe Glitch,” which allowed players to multiply their items directly from their shared stash.
