The Hidden Gems season of Pokemon Go started on a high note and introduced players to Alolan Pokemon Sandygast and Palossand. The Sand Heap Pokemon and the Sand Castle Pokemon finally made their way into the game with the Water Festival: Beach Week event.
If you want to add these Pokemon to your Pokedex, here’s everything you need to know, including how to get them and their shiny availability.
How to get Sandygast & Palossand in Pokemon Go
Currently, there are two ways to get Sandygast in Pokemon Go. Players can catch it in 1-Star Raids or by completing specific Field Research tasks.
We recommend tackling 1-Star Raids since they can be done by one trainer alone with ease. Sandygast is a dual Ghost and Ground-type Pokemon, so you shouldn’t have any trouble facing it with Water, Grass, Ice, Dark, or Ghost-type Pokemon.
If you want to get Sandygast through Field Research, you’ll need to get the following task:
- Water Festival: Catch 25 Water-type Pokemon
You can get new Field Research tasks by spinning PokeStops, as long as you have space. You can have up to four ongoing Field Research tasks in your game.
Keep in mind that Sandygast will be in Field Research tasks and 1-Star Raids until the Beach Week event ends on June 12.
After catching Sandygast, trainers will need to spend 50 Candy to evolve it into Palossand. This is the only way to get Palossand in Pokemon Go for now. We recommend using Pinap Berries when catching Sandygast to earn more Candy and speed up the process.
Can Sandygast and Palossand be shiny in Pokemon Go?
Shiny Sandygast and shiny Palossand aren’t available in Pokemon Go at the moment. It’s no surprise since they’re debuting Pokemon in the game.
Players can expect Shiny Sandygast and Palossand to make their debuts in Pokemon Go sometime in the future, probably during a new special event.
