Warzone 2 players claim Cronen Squall nerf barely changed game’s “best gun”

The Cronen Squall received a long-awaited nerf in the Warzone 2 May 31 update, but players feel the devs didn’t go far enough as the Battle Rifle is still dominating matches.

Warzone 2 players are spoilt for choice when comes to weapons in Season 3 Reloaded, from versatile Assault Rifles to close-range SMGs. But since its arrival with the Season 3 update, the Cronen Squall has emerged as one of the best weapons in the game.

With this in mind, when the May 31 update nerfed the Battle Rifle, alongside the ISO Hemlock, many players were hoping for a more competitive meta going forward.

However, much of the Warzone 2 community feels that the nerf wasn’t enough, as the Cronen Squall is still the number one gun that players are using.

Although the patch reduced the Cronen Squall’s damage range, fire rate, and damage per shot, the rifle is still the most popular weapon in Warzone 2 according to WZ Ranked. It has a pick rate of 18%, edging out the Hemlock and Lachmann Sub.

Warzone 2 players also shared their thoughts on the nerf, claiming that the difference wasn’t noticeable enough to knock it out of the meta.

Content creator Warzone Loadout tweeted saying: “I usually don’t like to say that after updates, but Cronen Squall still is the best gun in the game. It was so strong before, and it feels very similar now.”

He then shared a comparison of the Cronen’s TTK before and after the update, showing that it “did not really change.”

After testing the Battle Rifle, he found that its short-range TTK has only been reduced by around 28ms as a result of the nerf. Meanwhile, the mid and long-range speeds were reduced by just 2ms and 4ms respectively.

So, although players using the Cronen Squall will kill slightly slower in Warzone 2 going forward, the difference will be hardly noticeable in practice, especially over long distances where the weapon is most effective.

Plenty of other players responded, calling for the devs to nerf the Cronen Squall even harder in the next update in an effort to make the meta feel more balanced.

“They have to completely break the gun and or get rid of it,” said Twitter user ‘foundonthemoon.’ Small ass changes aren’t going to do s**t when it’s a two-shot laser.”

Warzone 2 Season 4 is set to be the next major update, so we’ll have to wait and see if the devs make the Croenen less effective once again. The update is also to bring the new Vondel Resurgence map according to leaks.
