Best counters for Meganium Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The best counters for beating Meganium Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are Chien-Pao, Scizor, and Gholdengo.

Meganium is quite tanky, being able to absorb damage. So, it’s important to use hard-hitting counters that can boost their offensive stats. Meganium’s Defense and Special Defense stats are both an impressive 100, so you can use either Physical or Special attackers to get the job done.

Do note that Meganium does an instant +6 Body Press and spams it throughout the battle. So, avoid bringing Dark-type counters and even if you do, use Ghost Tera Type to get an immunity to Body Press.

Best Chien-Pao strategy for Meganium Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Make sure to use Chien-Pao with Ghost Tera Type.

The Legendary Chien-Pao is one of the strongest Attackers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, with good stats spread all across the board as well as the formidable Sword of Ruin ability that lowers the Defense of Meganium by 25%.

With its 120 Attack stat, it can deal super-effective damage to the Raid Boss with powerful moves like Crunch, which has a 20% chance to reduce Meganium’s Defense by one stage.

Add a move like Brick Break or Psychic Fangs to destroy screens set up by Meganium and continue doing damage. While these two moves are resisted by Meganium, their ability to break through screens is key.

Since Chien-Pao isn’t too bulky, Recover is a great move to keep it healthy throughout the Raid battle. These moves are all that it needs, but you can also add Tera Blast to do super-effective Ghost-type damage to Meganium.

Best Scizor strategy for Meganium Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The Bug/Steel-type Scizor is only weak to Fire-type attacks.

Fellow Gen 2 Pokemon Scizor is a great counter to Meganium Tera Raids in Scarlet and Violet, boasting an incredible 130 Attack that can be boosted by two stages using Swords Dance.

X-Scissor is Scizor’s Bug-type move of choice, sporting a neat 80 base power. Also, Scizor can deal damage and switch out with U-turn. Otherwise, if you want to have Scizor on the battlefield, use X-Scissor. Scizor can get bulkier with Iron Defense, sponging Meganium’s hits.

Best Gholdengo strategy for Meganium Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

pokemon scarlet and violet meganium tera raid best counter gholdengo
Gholdengo is the 1000th Pokemon in the National Pokedex.

If you’re looking for some Ghost-type damage against Meganium in its Tera Raid, Gholdengo is one of the best Pokemon to use in any Scarlet and Violet battle.

It has Nasty Plot to take its jaw-dropping 133 Special Attack to another level and the deadly Shadow Ball to hit Meganium super hard. Recover helps Gholdengo remain healthy throughout the Raid.

These three moves are all you need to face Meganium, so the fourth slot doesn’t matter. But, Thunder Wave is recommended as it can paralyze Meganium, making it easier to take down the Raid Boss.

Make sure to add the Held Item Air Balloon to prevent Gholdengo from taking damage from the super-effective Bulldoze.
