The iconic Charizard has taken over Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raid Battles so here are the best counters and battling strategies to beat them easily

After beating the other two original starters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raids, players can now take on one of the most popular Pokemon in the franchise, the one-and-only Charizard.

While Charizard was previously featured in Tera Raid Battles, many were unable to catch this prized Pokemon, but they are now all set to get the job done.

So, here are some tips to beat the Charizard Tera Raid Battle easily in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, along with the best counters to use.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Charizard Tera Raid start date & time

The 7-Star Charizard Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will run until March 17 at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET / 12:59 AM GMT (March 18).

The Charizard caught after completing the Tera Raid will contain the Mightiest Mark, meaning you can only catch one per save file. It’s important to note that players who caught a Charizard during its first Tera Raid Battle appearance, will not be able to catch another one.

Where to find Charizard Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Black Crystal spots on the Paldean map indicate a 7-Star Tera Raid.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can find Charizard Tera Raids by searching for Black Crystals shining across the game map. Interacting with the Crystal will allow you to take part in the Tera Raid Battle.

Charizard Tera Raid type & moveset in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Charizard has the Dragon Tera Type in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid Battle. This means that Charizard will be weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type moves. You’ll want to stick to Fairy-type Pokemon, as Charizard’s moveset contains Fire-type and Dragon-type attacks, which will dominate Ice-type and Dragon-type Pokemon.

Check out Charizard’s moveset for the Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid below:

  • Overheat (Fire)
  • Fire Blast (Fire)
  • Hurricane (Flying)
  • Tera Blast (Dragon)
  • Dragon Pulse (Dragon)
  • Sunny Day (Fire)
  • Inferno (Fire)
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)

It will also have the Solar Power Ability, which increases Special Attack in Harsh Sunlight at the cost of HP each turn.

Best counters for Charizard Tera Raid Battle in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Azumarill, Sylveon, and Flutter Mane are the best counters for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Charizard Tera Raid Battle. Not only do these Fairy-types provide super-effective attacks to hit Charizard, but they are also immune to the STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) Dragon-type moves during the battle.

Best Azumarill build for Charizard Tera Raid

Azumarill can maximize its Attack by 4x when it uses Belly Drum.
  • Nature: Adamant
  • Item: Ability Shield
  • Ability: Huge Power
  • Moveset: Belly Drum, Play Rough, Liquidation, Tail Whip

If you’re looking to end the Charizard Tera Raid Battle as quickly as possible, this Azumarill build is your best bet. The goal is to raise its Attack to astronomical levels thanks to Huge Power and Belly Drum. Play Rough should be enough to take down Charizard easily, but keep in mind that Azumarill’s defenses are quite frail.

Best Sylveon build for Charizard Tera Raid

Sylveon’s Pixilate Ability turns Normal-type attacks into Fairy-type.
  • Nature: Modest
  • Item: Fairy Feather
  • Ability: Pixilate
  • Moveset: Hyper Beam, Draining Kiss, Fake Tears, Light Screen

One of the most popular Fairy types among Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players, Sylveon can dish out massive damage thanks to its Ability, Pixilate.

Hyper Beam works extremely well with Fairy Feather to deal high super-effective damage while Draining Kiss keeps Sylveon healthy throughout the battle, while also hitting the Raid Boss hard.

To deal with Charizard’s other moves, Sylveon can set up Light Screen to reduce damage on itself and all teammates by 50% for five turns. Additionally, Fake Tears lowers Charizard’s Special Defense by two stages, making it more vulnerable to Sylveon’s string attacks.

Best Flutter Mane build for Charizard Tera Raid

Flutter Mane has extremely high Special Attack and Special Defense.
  • Nature: Modest
  • Item: Booster Energy
  • Ability: Protosynthesis
  • Moveset: Mystical Fire, Moonblast, Misty Terrain, Fake Tears

Flutter Mane is one of the strongest Paradox Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet and a superb counter to Charizard Tera Raids due to its incredible stats. With Booster Energy, you can power up Flutter Mane’s Special Attack by 30%.

Right off the bat, use Mystical Fire to build Tera, do some damage, and lower Charizard’s Special attack by one stage. With Fake Tears in tow, you can also lower the Raid Boss’ Special Defense, benefiting Flutter Mane and its teammates.

Misty Terrain is a great addition to reduce damage from Charizard’s Dragon-type moves by 50%. All these setup moves can completely nerf Tera Charizard in the battle, letting you finish off in style with a super-effective Moonblast.
