Pokemon Day 2024 gave several big announcements and the celebrations are just getting started in Scarlet and Violet as players can tackle new Tera Raid Battles featuring fan-favorite Pokemon from Gen 1. The popular starter Venusaur is the first species to headline 7-Star events in the game.

So here’s everything you need to know to beat the Venusaur Tera Raid Battle in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including weaknesses, counters, and other tips.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Venusaur Tera Raid date & time

The 7-Star Venusaur Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will run until March 5 at 3:59 PM PT / 6:59 PM ET / 11:59 PM GMT.

Venusaur caught during the event will have the Mightiest Mark and six perfect IVs. It’s worth noting that you can catch only one Venusaur per save file. Although you won’t be able to capture another Venusaur, you can still battle it again to claim useful rewards.

Where to find Venusaur 7-Star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

You can find Venusaur Tera Raid spots in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet by locating Black Crystals shining on the game map. By going to these spots, you can immediately take part in the 7-Star Tera Raid event.

Venusaur Tera Raid type & moveset in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Venusaur has the Ground Tera Type in its Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raid, which means it’s weak against Water, Grass, and Ice-type moves.

You should note that Venusaur will still get STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) with Grass and Poison-type moves, so you should avoid bringing Water or Grass-type Pokemon to this battle.

Venusaur has the following moves in the Tera Raid battle:

  • Earth Power (Ground)
  • Sludge Bomb (Poison)
  • Giga Drain (Grass)
  • Amnesia (Psychic)
  • Sunny Day (Fire)
  • Growth (Grass)
  • Petal Blizzard (Grass)

Additionally, you should note that Venusaur has the ability Chlorophyll, which doubles its Speed under harsh sunlight or Sunny weather.

Best counters for Venusaur Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Venusaur with the Ground Tera Type won’t be easy to defeat in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raids, but we recommend picking Ice-type Pokemon to increase your chances.

While Venusaur has decent bulk, its Defense stat is the one you should focus on by bringing powerful attackers like some of the counters listed below.

Best Baxcalibur strategy for Venusaur Tera Raid in Pokemon S&V

pokemon scarlet and violet blaziken tera raid counter baxcalibur
Baxcalibur’s incredible Attack stat is one of the highest in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Baxcalibur is the overall best option for this Tera Raid battle in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet thanks to its varied arsenal and powerful moves. You can start with Snowscape to prevent any harsh sunlight, and then Leer to lower Venusaur’s defenses as much as you can. You can also use Swords Dance to enhance Baxcalibur’s attack by two stages.

Lastly, Icicle Crash is a pretty powerful move that has a chance of making Venusaur flinch, so keep it in mind.

Best Abomasnow strategy for Venusaur Tera Raid in Pokemon S&V

Abomasnow in the Pokemon Anime
Abomasnow is one of the best Ice-type Pokemon in the game.

Abomasnow is another viable choice, especially if it has the Snow Warning Ability. It creates a Snowstorm that lasts for 5 turns after Abomasnow enters battle, so it’s great against this powerful opponent.

Regarding Abomasnow’s moveset, Aurora Veil can be really helpful as long as there’s a Snowstorm in battle. This move reduces damage taken by half. On the other hand, Swords Dance can improve Abomasnow’s Attack so you can land a powerful Ice-type move of your choice.

You can also use Ice Spinner on this Tera Raid, in case Venusaur sets Grassy Terrain at the beginning of the battle.

Best Iron Bundle strategy for Venusaur Tera Raid in Pokemon S&V

The Ice/Water-type Iron Bundle is a Paradox version of Delibird.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can also pick Iron Bundle for this Tera Raid Battle. Icy Wind is very useful in reducing Venusaur’s Speed in the first turns, giving you and your Raid party a chance to inflict more damage.

Iron Bundle can use Freeze-Dry but also Hydro Pump to inflict super-effective STAB damage on Venusaur.

Best Chien-Pao strategy for Venusaur Tera Raid in Pokemon S&V

pokemon scarlet and violet venusaur tera raid counter chien-pao
Chien-Pao is arguably the most powerful of the Legendary Treasures of Ruin

Chien-Pao is one of the strongest additions to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as this Dark/Ice-type boasts excellent Attack and Speed. But, what makes it truly dangerous is its ability Sword of Ruin, which decreases the opponent’s Defense by 25% when Chien-Pao enters the battlefield.

With Venusaur already having a lower Defense stat compared to its Special Defense, Chien-Pao can decimate the Raid Boss with powerful Ice-type moves like Icicle Crash that has a 30% chance to make Venusuar flinch, as well as Priority Ice Shard to deal damage right off the bat.
