The creatives behind Persona 5 are introducing Metaphor: ReFantazio, a unique JRPG that’s set to launch at the beginning of this October.

Studio Zero, the creative team behind Persona 5, has finally set a date for the release of Metaphor: ReFantazio. The latest JRPG published by Atlus will challenge players to explore the United Kingdom of Euchronia while trying to complete the trials of a royal tournament to win the throne.

Metaphor: ReFantazio release date & platforms

Metaphor: ReFantazio will be released worldwide on October 11, 2024. Atlus’ latest JRPG will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Steam, PS4, and PS5.

While there’s no official confirmation of Metaphor: ReFantazio arriving on Nintendo Switch, some trusted leakers hinted that it might be available for Nintendo Switch 2, which hasn’t been announced yet.

Metaphor: ReFantazio gameplay

According to Studio Zero and Atlus, Metaphor: ReFantazio will let players explore a unique fantasy world while completing quests and hunting for treasures every day. Players will also need to build relationships within their party and customize their companions to personalize their adventure.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will combine action and turn-based commands for its battle style, and promises an “evolution” from the Persona franchise.

Metaphor: ReFantazio story

Metaphor: ReFantazio players will follow the protagonist, together with the fairy Galica, on their journey to break the curse placed on the United Kingdom of Euchronia’s prince.

The story starts after the king’s assassination, which sparks chaos throughout the kingdom and invokes the Royal Magic. This will finally set the events for the Royal tournament, which is held across the world to decide the throne’s successor.

Players will help the protagonist to cure the crown prince of Euchronia, who just witnessed his father’s murder. To achieve their goal, they will also have to participate in the Royal Tournament for the throne, which will require them to rally their allies from the various tribes around the world.

Atlus first announced Metaphor: ReFantazio on June 11, 2023.

On December 11, 2023, Atlus gathered Director Katsura Hashino, Character Designer Shigenori Soejima, and Composer Shoji Meguro, who revealed the creative decisions that built Metaphor: ReFantazio.

On June 11, 2023, Atlus released a trailer where Director Katsura Hashino rallied players to wait for Metaphor: ReFantazio future announcements.

On April 23, 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio finally revealed its release date during the Atlus Exclusive Showcase.
