Paradox Interactive and Double Eleven present Prison Architect 2, a new edition of the classic prison management simulator. This sequel promises to add new layers of gameplay thanks to its new 3D design, as well as an improved AI system for inmates to challenge players’ builds.

Prison Architect 2 release date & platforms

Prison Architect 2 will be released on September 3, 2024, and it will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

Double Eleven and Paradox Interactive initially set the original release date on March 26, 2024, but was delayed to May 7, 2024. However, the devs considered that there were some major technical problems to solve before launch and agreed to push the release again to September.

“While we currently have builds certified on all platforms and are ready to release, issues regarding memory usage and failures in minimum spec configurations have emerged,” said the Prison Architect 2 team.

Prison Architect 2 gameplay

Prison Architect 2 invites players to design and upkeep their own penitentiary, where they’ll have to manage resources and personnel to run a state-of-the-art correctional facility. Players will also have to monitor inmates’ lives, where their relationship with others can influence behavior and make decisions based on their needs.

Double Eleven revealed that Prison Architect 2 will also count with a Career Mode and Sandbox mode. In Career Mode, players can start learning the basis of the game while completing the objectives of the main campaign. Each time they complete a challenge, new objectives will appear on the map, and they’ll unlock new tools to use in their prisons.

In Sandbox mode, players can start from scratch and start their own prison without rules or specific victory conditions.

Prison Architect 2 has changed its original art style from 2D to 3D, allowing players to build new environments with multiple floors. This new dimension has changed the game’s dynamics, as every model has been turned to 3D.

Is Prison Architect 2 multiplayer?

No, Prison Architect 2 will be released as a single-player. However, the original Prison Architect has both multiplayer and co-op game modes, so there’s a possibility that devs add these game modes after the initial launch.
