Skull and Bones is a full-priced game and will receive extensive post-launch support, but what about microtransactions? Here are all the details on premium currencies in Skull and Bones.

Ubisoft has already laid out Year 1 plans for Skull and Bones, and while they noted that everything that involves gameplay will be free, most of their games feature microtransactions. Even the full single-player ones, like Assassin’s Creed, have in-game purchases in the form of cosmetics, XP boosters, and other resources.

Skull and Bones does have multiple editions, with the Premium Edition packing exclusive cosmetic items, missions, and Battle Pass. Its $70 price tag had many players worried, thinking it’d “kill” the game, here’s whether it also includes in-game purchases to top it off.

Are there microtransactions in Skull and Bones?

Yes, Skull and Bones does have microtransactions, similar to other Ubisoft games. It appears, so far, that most you can buy in Skull and Bones through the premium currency are cosmetic items and Battle Pass.

Skull and Bones has three types of in-game currencies.

Gold is Skull and Bones’ in-game premium currency that has to be brought through real money. You’ll have to cough up $4.99 or £3.99 for 500 Gold.

Outside of Gold, there are two other currencies in Skull and Bones—Silver and Pieces of Eight. Both are earnable currencies, with Silver being your usual everything currency and Pieces of Eight being a special currency that can be used to purchase items in the Black Market.

Is Skull and Bones pay to win?

Skull and Bones features limited PvP, which is opt-in, as the game is primarily PvE. And with most purchases being cosmetics, it isn’t pay-to-win.

It is also likely, given Ubisoft’s past trends, that they may add some boosters and resource packs to the in-game shop so you can pay to progress faster.

That’s everything you need to know about microtransactions in Skull and Bones. For more on the game, check out:
