Does Skull and Bones have land combat?

Since Skull and Bones is all about plundering ships, you’ll be sailing the high seas in search of precious booty. However, does it feature land combat also? We discuss the answer right here.

Skull and Bones puts heavy emphasis on ship-based gameplay, featuring detailed ship-building and customization. Its emphasis on ship combat is what separates it from other major pirate games like Sea of Thieves. 

It does miss out on a full-fledged single-player campaign, with most of the game centered around PvE gameplay, taking place in a shared world where you’ll meet other players. But what about land combat?

Here’s whether Skull and Bones features land combat.  

Is there Skull and Bones land combat? 

No, there is no land combat like sword fighting or shooting in Skull and Bones. It is entirely ship-focused and does not offer any meaningful on-foot gameplay. 

That doesn’t mean you can’t get off your ship and stretch your legs in Skull and Bones. You can often walk around on dry land but only at specific locations – like dens. 

Even when you’re collecting resources, like harvesting materials on the island, you don’t have to swing any axes or battle any foes. On foot, the most you do is walk around safe places, interact with NPCs, and meet other players. 

Ubisoft has also already detailed Year 1 plans for Skull and Bones, and it doesn’t mention land combat, so it’s unlikely to arrive anytime soon, at least not in Year 1. 

Skull and Bones was always a ship-based game. In fact, when it was first announced, it was strictly a PvP boat combat game. PvE elements were only later added after the many delays and reboots. So it isn’t particularly surprising that it doesn’t feature land-based gameplay for now.
