EA Sports FC is set to arrive later in 2023, and a known FIFA leaker has revealed that Ultimate Team’s position change feature will function much differently in the new game.

EA Sports FC will make its debut later this year, following the well-documented end of the deal between EA and FIFA. Since news of the rebrand surfaced, the devs have worked hard to reassure players that series staples like Ultimate Team and Career Mode will return, complete with licensed teams.

However, leaks have begun to hint at some of the changes set to arrive in EA Sports FC, from the long-awaited Women’s Ultimate Team mode to new Heroes and Icons.

Now, a new EA Sports FC leak has revealed a major tweak to how changing positions will work in the next Ultimate Team iteration.

On May 12, Donk Trading tweeted claiming that position change cards, which have been a feature of the mode for many years, will be scrapped in EA Sports FC. Instead, the leaker explained that “you will be able to switch to players alternate positions without the card.”

In FIFA 23, FUT fans have to use a consumable item to switch a player’s position, which can be earned from packs, bought from the Transfer Market, or obtained from a repeatable SBC. The item would then allow managers to choose from a number of alternate positions, unique to each player.

In a follow-up tweet, Donk Trading revealed that EA Sports FC will let fans switch players to any of their alternative positions at any time.

They went on to mention that EA Sports FC will feature “WAY MORE Alternative POS on players,” with the number “increasing a lot from [FIFA] 23.”

While the FIFA 23 system was much more realistic than the old method, which saw players change roles depending on their starting position, much of the community still felt that there weren’t enough options when it came to fitting big-name stars into a formation.

Football fans will no doubt be hoping that this new version of the position change feature will open up more squad-building opportunities in EA Sports FC Ultimate Team.
