There is currently no official release date for XDefiant, Ubisoft’s upcoming FPS looking to rival Call of Duty. However, fans think a release isn’t too far away as the game is set to feature in Ludwig Anders Ahgren‘s upcoming ‘World’s Greatest’ tournament.

XDefiant is an upcoming project from Ubisoft, which sees a number of the publisher’s biggest franchises appear as Factions in a fast-paced arena shooter. Dubbed the ‘CoD killer’ by many fans, the game is set to feature many popular features like Ranked Play from day one.

While players have had a taste of what XDefiant has to offer through multiple betas, there is no firm release date slated for the game, with the devs only teasing a Summer 2023 release.

However, XDefiant fans think that the game could finally arrive after the hotly-anticipated shooter was confirmed to feature in an upcoming creator tournament.

From September 2 to 3, popular YouTuber Ludwig will be hosting the World’s Greatest tournament, which sees many of the biggest pro Esports stars compete against one another. The players will battle it out across a number of different games, including Minecraft, Street Fighter 6, and even Fall Guys.

While the other games due to feature have all been out for some time, XDefiant is the only title that isn’t currently available. This has left players wondering if XDefiant will finally release before, or on, September 2.

Former Call of Duty world champion Patrick ‘ACHES’ Price, who is now a dev working on XDefiant, fuelled the speculation by replying with an eye emoji, to which Ludwig himself responded: “Did I leak something..”

A number of players also replied, speculating what XDefiant’s inclusion in the tournament could mean for its eventual release date.

“Ok so XDefiant will release before September 2?” asked one fan, before another said: “If this is happening September 2, then XDefiant is definitely coming out in August.”

Although Ubisoft have been promoting the event, there is currently no official confirmation on whether or not the publisher will use the World’s Greatest tournament to announce a final date. However, if XDefiant is being shown off at such a high-profile contest, it likely won’t be too long before the game finally launches.
