Simple trick saves Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC player from major evolution mistake

Hydrapple in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

When tackling the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, this player stumbled upon a problem with one of the new Applin evolutions, but hopefully, the community had a simple trick to fix it.

There are a lot of unique evolution methods in the Pokemon franchise, from trades to learning specific moves. Pokemon Legends Arceus brought battle styles into the Legends play-style, and the game also featured specific Pokemon evolving by using these along certain attacks

One of the oldest tricks in the book is leveling a Pokemon to the required evolution level or giving a specific item to trigger the evolution. But when teaching a specific move is the required method, creatures need to at least level up once to evolve.

Reddit user ‘Wind-Spare’ thought they messed up when they found out their Dipplin had a new evolution available in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC.

“I’ve messed up,” is what the OP said on their Pokemon subreddit post when they thought they weren’t able to evolve Dipplin after reaching level 100. Applin’s evolution featured on The Teal Mask DLC needs to learn a new move in The Indigo Disk to evolve into Hydrapple.

The user shared their concern with the community, stating that they were “kinda bummed” that they leveled the Pokemon all the way up, only to find out that their Dipplin “can’t evolve again.”

A simple trick shared by the Reddit Pokemon community saved this user’s day, as many others jumped into the post to tell user ‘Wind-Spare’ that they could still evolve Dipplin. “Just give them a rare candy and it’ll trigger the evolution,” said a commenter.

Many other users unrelated to the OP’s problem responded effusively when they found out that this was possible. “D*mn! I didn’t know that,” some added, while others directly shared the solution: “Teach it dragon cheer and use a rare candy.”

It seems that trainers can still give level 100 Pokemon some Rare Candies, even if it’s for evolution purposes. For more on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, check out how to unlock the secret ending cutscene, or how to battle the secret boss of the Blueberry Academy.
