Pokemon Scarlet & Violet The Indigo Disk DLC has arrived, and it introduces players to a 19th type called Stellar. Here’s what you need to know about Pokemon’s new Stellar Tera Type.

After nine Generations of Pokemon, and only three new types added, The Pokemon Company have finally added a new Tera Type to the game. Tera Types are part of the Terastallization mechanic, which powers up Pokemon and their moves during combat and could even change their type for a new one.

However, players might be wondering what the new Stellar-type consists of in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This new type is directly related to the Terastal Phenomenon, so let’s take a look at what you need to know about Scarlet and Violet’s new Stellar Tera Type.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC: What is Stellar-type?

The Stellar-type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk DLC is a new Tera Type. While the Stellar type is being referred to as the 19th type in the franchise, keep in mind that it is not a base type and it only appears as a Terastallization type.

The type is tied to the new Legendary Pokemon Terapagos and the overarching story of The Indigo Disk that investigates the origins of Terastallization. Once again, it’s important to note that the Stellar-type is not a standard type and only functions through the Terastal Phenomenon.

Every Pokemon has access to the Stellar Tera Type, and activating it has certain effects in battle. For starters, when the Stellar Tera Type is active, it boosts every type of attack by 1.5x (STAB). However, the catch is that it only boosts an attack of the same type once.

The Stellar-type was added to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet with The Indigo Disk DLC.

For example, if a Stellar-type Pokemon uses Hydro Pump in battle, followed by another Hydro Pump, only the first Hydro Pump will receive the damage boost. The one exception is that this limitation does not apply to Tera Raid Battles.

In terms of weaknesses and resistances, the Stellar-type is completely neutral and does not impact incoming or outgoing attacks, aside from the damage boost mentioned above.

The Stellar-type also changes the functionality of the Tera Blast move. A Stellar Tera Type Pokemon that uses Tera Blast will deal super effective damage to opposing Pokemon that are Terastallized, but using Tera Blast will lower the attacking Pokemon’s Attack and Special Attack.
