For some Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players, the Tera Type mechanic has a major flaw, and they are proposing a lot of suggestions on how to improve it.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have presented their last Pokemon with the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Epilogue Quest: Mochi Mayhem. And though trainers are fascinated with Pecharunt and its battle gimmicks, some fans are still thinking about improvements to make for the next iteration of the franchise.

It is all about the Tera Type mechanic, and how the NPC Gym Leaders handle it during combat. Some players believe there’s room for improvement, and they have taken it to Reddit to discuss their thoughts on how they handled Tera Types.

This was posted by Reddit user ‘katiekatz99’ in the Pokemon subreddit, where they offered some insight on the subject.

The OP stated: “My one complaint on how Game Freak handled Terastilization mechanic during the Gym Battles was the Gym Leaders only Terastilize their Pokemon to match their Type specialty. Same for the Elite Four.”

It seems that in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Gym leaders tend to focus on maximum output STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) by using the same Tera Type as their core team (Grass Type on Grass Pokemon, for example.) instead of using several tactics to “throw off the players.”

One of the community members quickly responded to this by saying: “GF is weird, it’s like they don’t understand their own gimmick.” About how erratic the Tera Type choice is in the Main Game.

And then added: “Like the Blue Berry Elite Four have actually been a decent challenge, almost using competitive-level strategies like tailwind setup and type countering. Only then to just tera their main Pokemon into their tera type without any real strategy behind it.”

One of the trainers also added: “I think the games should have focused more on clever strategies with tera types rather than just arbitrarily giving each gym leader a different type right at the end of the match.”
