Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players celebrate trainer’s “peak anime” battle with BB champion

Before trainers can go to Area Zero to catch the highly sought-after Legendary species Terapagos in the Indigo Disk DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they’ll have to beat Kieran, the champion of the Blueberry Academy.
But this battle is not a typical one, as the storyline involves Kieran’s frustrations over being unable to catch Ogerpon in the Teal Mask DLC and going on a ‘revenge arc’ to get stronger with new Pokemon such as Hydrapple.
That’s not all as Kieran also has a hilarious reaction if the protagonist uses Ogerpon in the champion battle, indicating the obvious tension during the moment.
Now, a player’s battle with Kieran has set the Pokemon community abuzz due to the events that take place in the intense faceoff.
A Reddit user named ‘flyinczechwaiian’ shared a video of their battle with Kieran in the Indigo Disk DLC and wrote: “I could not have asked for a more epic finale to my rematch with Kieran.”
The video shows the OP using a Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon against Kieran’s signature Pokemon Hydrapple where the Legendary tanks an all-out Fickle Beam from Dipplin’s powerful DLC evolution, and goes on to beat it with a second Play Rough after missing the first one.
With Ogerpon, of all Pokemon, defeating Kieran’s ace even after taking its strongest attack, several fans lauded the bout in the comments section. Ironically, the Ogerpon also has high affection with the OP, as evidenced by the “Ogerpon toughed it out so you wouldn’t feel sad” battle quote.
Users commented: “The power of friendship pulling through, beautiful to witness” and “The reminder that Ogerpon loves you and not him is brutal.”
More users referenced the affection stat as they wrote: “Usually I am against the affection mechanics but that’s just too good and fits so well,” as well as “So far the biggest middle finger to Kieran.”
Other fans were so impressed that one called the battle “peak anime,” before another added: “My battle was just like this with Ogerpon against Hydrapple. It felt like a scripted anime battle and I loved it.”
