Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players want to use Metagross to win the toughest battles in the meta. To help you get the job done, here are its weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and best moves to use.

Pseudo Legendaries like Baxcalibur, Dragapult, and Metagross are some of the most powerful Pokemon for Scarlet and Violet battles, with stats higher than some Legendaries.

While most Pseudo Legendaries are Dragon-types, the Steel/Psychic-type Metagross is unique, being the only one not weak to Fairy-types.

If you’re looking to get the upper hand over your opponent in Pokemon battles, here’s all you need to know about the weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and best moves for Metagross.

Metagross weaknesses explained in Pokemon

Metagross is weak to Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground-type attacks in Pokemon.

That said, it has good bulk, helping it often tank super-effective hits, particularly Physical attacks as its Defense stat is an impressive 130.

You can use Held Items like Air Balloon to remove its weakness to Ground-type attacks or go with Weakness Policy to boost both its offensive stats after being hit by super-effective moves.

Metagross resistances explained in Pokemon

Metagross resists Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Normal, Rock, and Steel-type attacks and is immune to Poison-type attacks in Pokemon.

The resistance to Dragon, Fairy, Rock, and Steel-type moves is a boon for Dragon-type teammates like Baxcalibur, Roaring Moon, and Dragonite. Also, with the immunity to Poison-type moves, it cannot be poisoned by Toxic or Toxic Spikes set on the battlefield.

Roaring Moon with Flying Tera Type is one of the best teammates Metagross can ask for, as they cover each other’s weaknesses very well.

Metagross strengths explained in Pokemon

Metagross does super-effective damage to Fairy, Fighting, Ice, Poison, and Rock-type Pokemon with its STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) Steel and Psychic-type attacks.

Combining its list of resistances with its offensive potential, Metagross is the ultimate answer to Fairy and Ice-type Pokemon. Moreover, with the fantastic ability, Clear Body, it ignores moves or hazards that can lower its stats. You’ll find this very useful when the opponent throws a Sticky Web to your side, as Metagross avoids the Speed drops altogether, thanks to Clear Body.

Best Metagross moves in Pokemon

The best moves for Metagross in Pokemon are Bullet Punch, Heavy Slam, Knock Off, and Earthquake.

  • Bullet Punch is a Priority move, so regardless of how fast the opponent is, Metagross will use this attack first. With Adamant Nature, Bullet Punch dishes out high damage and is the perfect move to knock out low HP Pokemon.
  • Heavy Slam was added to Metagross’ movepool in the Indigo Disk DLC, and its damage output is based on how much heavier the user is compared to the target. Metagross weighs 1212.5 lbs, and it deals excellent damage with Heavy Slam.
  • With Knock Off, another Indigo Disk DLC move, Metagross removes Held Items carried by Pokemon and does loads of damage. This move is great at throwing your opponent’s strategies out of the window.
  • Earthquake is an excellent move that can OHKO fellow Steel-types with its incredible 100 base power and wide coverage.

Other good moves include Meteor Mash, Psychic Fangs, Explosion, and Stealth Rock, but the new moves added in the DLC make Metagross stronger and more unpredictable than ever before.

This is all you need to know to turn your Metagross into an absolute monster in Pokemon battles. If you’re looking for more guides like this, check out the following:
