Evolutions are one of the most crucial parts of Pokemon Go to get powerful and rare species. Here’s how to get a Sun Stone in Pokemon Go, including all the species that evolve with the item.

Plenty of Pokemon have unique evolution methods in Pokemon Go, with some requiring Unova and Sinnoh Stones to get the job done. Similarly, you must be curious about the Sun Stone and all the species you can get by using this rare item.

So, here’s how to get a Sun Stone in Pokemon Go, including the best evolutions from this item.

Pokemon Go: How to get Sun Stones

You can get Sun Stones in Pokemon Go by spinning PokeStops and Gym Discs, and from the Research Breakthrough Box obtained by completing the 7-day streak.

While there’s a slim chance you get a Sun Stone by spinning PokeStops, completing the 7-day streak offers a higher chance. There’s no way to know what you’ll get, so you might have to try a couple of times.

Here’s a list of all Pokemon that require a Sun Stone to evolve in Pokemon Go:

  • Cottonee – Whimsicott
  • Gloom – Bellossom
  • Helioptile – Heliolisk
  • Petilil – Lilligant
  • Sunkern – Sunflora

While Cottonee and Sunkern are fairly common spawns in Pokemon Go, Helioptile and Petilil are usually tied to special events. On the other hand, trainers need to evolve Oddish, another common spawn, to get Gloom in the mobile game.

Best Sun Stone evolutions in Pokemon Go

The best Pokemon to evolve using a Sun Stone in Pokemon Go are Cottonee, Bellossom, and Helioptile.

Cottonee and its evolution Whimsicott have their uses, especially in the Great League, and Helioptile is a rare Pokemon, which means its evolution, Heliolisk, is coveted.

On the other hand, Gloom has two evolutions. Players can spend 100 Oddish Candy to evolve it into Vileplume, but if they add a Sun Stone, they’ll get Bellossom. Both evolutions are decent for PvE, so the decision ultimately relies on which one you like best.
