Pokemon that evolve with Unova Stones in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go has many special items to evolve some of its creatures, so it’s not only useful to know how to get them but also which Pokemon to use them on. Some Gen 5 Pokemon use Unova Stones to evolve, so here’s everything you need to know about this very important item.

Pokemon Go players can evolve creatures from all the franchise generations, but some of them have unique evolution methods. Unova Stones are evolution items introduced in Niantic’s AR mobile game and are required to evolve some of the Pokemon first discovered in the Unova region.

If you’re wondering how to get this useful item and what Pokemon you should evolve with it, we’ve got you covered with a complete guide on Unova Stones.

How to obtain Unova Stones in Pokemon Go

The main method to get Unova Stones in Pokemon Go is by opening the Research Breakthrough box. To do this, trainers need to complete one Field Research task a day for seven days. Luckily, you don’t need to do it seven days in a row. These weekly rewards are completely random, so you might have to open many Research Breakthrough boxes to get one Unova Stone.

Some special events centered around Pokemon from Unova might also feature a Timed Research with Unova Stones as rewards. Additionally, some Pokemon Go Battle League seasons may also feature Unova Stones as rewards for battling.

Keep an eye out for seasonal updates so you don’t miss your chance.

Every Pokemon that evolves using Unova Stone

Here’s a list of all seven Pokemon that require a Unova Stone to evolve in Pokemon Go:

  • Pansage – Simisage
  • Pansear – Simisear
  • Panpour – Simipour
  • Eelektric – Eelektross
  • Minccino – Cinccino
  • Lampent – Chandelure
  • Munna – Musharna

As you can see, while there aren’t many Pokemon that need a Unova Stone to evolve, they aren’t easy to find either. For starters, Pansage, Pansear, and Panpour are regional Pokemon, meaning you can only encounter one of them under normal circumstances.

Also, note that all these Pokemon require Candy to evolve on top of the Unova Stone, so you’ll need to catch many of the same species to evolve them.

Best Pokemon to evolve using Unova Stone

If you get your hands on a Unova Stone in Pokemon Go, these are the best Pokemon to evolve:

Lampent

Chandelure, Lampent’s final evolution, is one of the best Ghost-type Pokemon in the game, so it should be your priority. Setting Hex and Shadow Ball as its attacks should give you a powerful Ghost-type attacker for PvP and PvE. Adding a Fire-type move to its arsenal can make it an extremely useful asset for a variety of battles.

Pansage, Pansear, or Panpour

The elemental monkey trio can also be an interesting addition to your PvP team. Simisage, Simisear, and Simipour start with a great base thanks to Bite and Crunch. Additionally, each one can also add an attack with STAB to expand its arsenal.

Sadly, Eelektrik, Minccino, and Munna‘s evolutions aren’t very good at PvP or PvE, so you should evolve them just to complete your Pokedex if you get the chance.
