Delphox in a Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid

The Delphox Tera Raid battle event is back. Here’s a full guide of everything you need to know about the Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid event including its start time, tips, counters, and the best strategy to beat it.

Trainers playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet previously had the chance to add Delphox to their Pokedex, with a new Tera Raid Battle event. And now, they have a second chance to try the Delphox Tera Raid. Players waiting for the two-part DLC after finishing the three main paths can tackle these special challenges for a chance to catch very powerful and unique Pokemon.

This 7-Star Tera Raid features Delphox with a special Tera type that can make things difficult and unpredictable. Having a great team composition or the right counters is key to success, so trainers all around the world should prepare beforehand.

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the Delphox event, including dates, tips, and some of the best counters.

Delphox Tera Raid Battle dates in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The second set of Delphox Tera Raid Battle dates takes place in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from July 14 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET / 1 AM BST (July 15) to July 16 at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET / 12:59 AM BST (July 17). Players that were unable to catch this Fire-type Pokemon with a Fairy Tera Type during the past event will have another chance for it.

The 7-Star Tera Raid Battle features Delphox with the Mightiest Mark, meaning players can only catch one per save file. They can still battle it again to gain some juicy drops, including some useful Fairy-type Tera Crystals.

Like past Pokemon Scarlet and Violet events like Tera Raid Decidueye in March and Typhlosion in April, among other fan-favorite starters, it is probable that Delphox may appear again in future events. But there’s a chance that it will come back with a different Tera Type and moveset.

Delphox’s debut in the latest Pokemon game finally completed the Kalos starter trio. Greninja already headlined a Tera Raid Battle event in January and February, while Chesnaught did the same during May and June.

Delphox Tera Type and moveset in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Delphox has the Fairy Tera Type in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-Star Tera Raid. That means it’s only weak against Poison and Steel-type moves. On the other hand, it can resist Bug, Dark, and Fighting-type attacks.

Regarding Delphox’s moveset, it knows Fire Blast (Fire), Psychic (Psychic), Dazzling Gleam (Fairy), and Will-O-Wisp (Fire). Additionally, players should be ready to debuff Delphox’s Nasty Plot (Dark) by lowering its Sp. Attack.

As we predicted from previous Tera Raid Battle events, Unrivaled Delphox has the Magician Hidden Ability. It’s an Ability that can steal a Pokemon’s held item upon attacking it, but it has no effect in Tera Raid Battles.

The bad news is that Delphox also knows the move Magic Room, which disables all held items during the battle. Players reported that Delphox only uses this move in the last stages of the battle, so you might be safe. However, we don’t recommend tackling this Raid relying too much on held items like Shell Bell.

Best counters for Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have a tough Tera Raid ahead due to Delphox’s type combination. While Poison and Steel-type Pokemon are super-effective against Fairy types, Delphox can destroy them with Psychic and Fire-type moves, respectively. So, relying on type effectiveness might be tricky here.

Of course, you can also try picking a counter that can resist most of Delphox’s attacks instead. Also, keep in mind that Delphox’s Sp. Defense stat is very high, so you should probably try to pick a physical attacker for this Raid.

That said, here are some of the best counters for this Tera Raid Battle:

Best Ceruledge strategy for Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid

Ceruledge’s Ghost and Fire type combination makes it take neutral damage from Psychic-type attacks. If it has the Flash Fire Ability, it’s also immune against any Fire-type moves, so you’ll have nothing to worry about.

The physical move Bitter Blade will be the key in this Tera Raid. It will not only deal a lot of damage but also restore some of Ceruledge’s health. This is great, considering that held items won’t have much effect in this battle.

Best Armarouge strategy for Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid

Luckily, Pokemon Scarlet players can also tackle this Raid with their own ghostly knight. Armarouge is an interesting option for this Raid since it can resist Psychic-type attacks. With the Flash Fire ability, it can also be immune to Fire-type damage.

Thanks to a high Sp. Attack stat, it can deal massive super-effective damage with moves like Flash Cannon and Acid Spray. Mystical Fire can deal damage while also lowering Delphox’s Sp. Attack. On the other hand, moves like Calm Mind or Light Screen can reduce Delphox’s damage output so Armourouge has room to attack.

Best Houndoom strategy for Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid

Houndoom can take neutral damage from Fairy-type attacks but can resist Fire-type moves, and it’s immune to Psychic-type attacks. If your Houndoom has the Flash Fire Ability, it will also be immune to all Fire-type damage.

Sludge Bomb should be your main source of damage, and you should pair it with Nasty Plot to pierce through Delphox’s Sp. Defense. Of course, if you can change your Houndoom’s Tera type to Poison, you’ll be one step closer to victory whether you tackle this Raid alone or with other trainers.

Other powerful counters for this Tera Raid Battle include Bronzong and Skuntank. Of course, since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have compatibility with Pokemon Home, you can now pick counters from other games and generations. With that in mind, Heatran, Arceus, Alolan Muk, Galarian Slowking, and even Delphox are also great counters for this Tera Raid Battle event.
