Mortal Kombat 1 players disappointed with “rushed & unfinished” new game mode

Mortal Kombat 1 rebooted the series once again and brought back many fan-favorite fighters to the deadly tournament. The latest entry also added lots of new elements and mechanics, but it seems players aren’t happy with one specific mode they think is “unfinished.”

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally here, and fans are enjoying a new era of the popular fighting game franchise. Even though the game is a soft reboot for the series, it also brought a lot of new elements to the formula, including last-gen graphics, Kameo Fighters, seasonal content, and more.

While players are enjoying the blood, the gore, and the Fatalities, they’re also disappointed with one of the big promises of Mortal Kombat 1.

Reddit users are debating the lackluster content of the new Invasions mode in a post titled “Invasions mode is such a disappointment.” OP ponjo_89 made a list of issues they found while playing Invasions for hours, and these include useless items, frustrating and repetitive challenges, and wasted potential in exploration of newly designed areas.

“I catch myself dreading to go back because I want the rewards but it’s so tedious and not fun to play,” ponjo_89 explained, and added: “Leveling characters up is super slow, and what you get is mediocre gear and palettes for hours and hours of boring and annoying challenges. Overall just high effort, low reward.”

Other players chimed in, agreeing with the OP: “As someone who 100% completed Invasion, it doesn’t get any different and you are absolutely right.” Some players are comparing the single-player mode to Konquest and The Krypt, similar iterations seen in Mortal Kombat: Deception and the latest entries. They feel those modes provided a better and more varied experience than Invasions.

“I just want unique fights that are fun. Slapping super armor on every opponent for over 100 fights is the polar opposite of that,” commented one user.

Others even started suggesting changes and additions to make Invasions a worthwhile experience: “they could bring back some of the non-fighting game modes from previous MK entries. The entire mode is built around casual play anyway, so why not bring back some variation on Chess Kombat, Puzzle Kombat, and Motor Kombat.”

Another player even compared the Mortal Kombat 1 mode to Street Fighter 6‘s latest addition: “World Tour mode in SF6 is fun as hell and it’s LITERALLY Konquest mode for Street Fighter.”

Most users still have hope for Invasions and expect the next season will have more variety. NetherRealm Studios already confirmed that players can expect new content every five or six weeks, with new bosses, new rewards, and different challenges. However, other fans can’t keep their hopes up, considering past installments received very little support from the devs.

Mortal Kombat was just released, so there’s still a lot to look forward to. Fans are still discovering everything the title has to offer while they wait for the first Kombat Pack with additional fighters.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest news, but in the meantime, you can check out how to get Shang-Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1 or the latest rumors around the Kombat Pack 2 DLC.
