Will Mortal Kombat 1 have crossplay? PC, PlayStation & Xbox cross-progression details

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be a new era for the long-running fighting franchise, but players are wondering if the reboot will support crossplay. Here’s everything we know about Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay and cross-progression.
Four years on from the last entry in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is set to arrive on September 19, 2023. Despite being a reboot of the iconic franchise, MK1 is sticking with many of the features that fans know and love, meaning its roster of unique fighters and gory fatalities will be sticking around.
After the beta held in August, many players might be wondering if Mortal Kombat 1 will allow them to brutally pummel friends on other platforms and share progress between consoles.
Here’s everything we know so far about crossplay and cross-progression in Mortal Kombat 1.
Will Mortal Kombat 1 have crossplay?
While developer NetherRealm confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 will have crossplay, they also revealed the feature will arrive after launch. Mortal Kombat 11 allowed crossplay between players on PlayStation and Xbox, so it’s no surprise that MK1 will follow suit.
On the other hand, PC and Nintendo Switch players didn’t have access to crossplay last time around, so we’ll have to wait and see if Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay spans beyond PlayStation and Xbox.

Its predecessor also allowed for cross-gen play, where Xbox One or PS4 players could battle those on Xbox Series X/S or PS5. However, this won’t be available in Mortal Kombat 1 at launch as there is currently no last-gen version planned.
Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch. pic.twitter.com/M8Kvi4QkMe

Will Mortal Kombat 1 have cross-progression?
There is currently no word on Mortal Kombat 1 cross-progression, so it’s unclear if players will be able to share their unlocks between different platforms. That being said, it does seem fairly unlikely.
Mortal Kombat 11 featured cross-progression between consoles in the same ecosystem, such as PS4 and PS5. But since Mortal Kombat 1 is only arriving on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, players may be forced to stick to separate accounts on each platform.
Of course, this is all just speculation at this point, but we’ll be sure to update this page as soon as more Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay and cross-platform details are announced.
