Mortal Kombat 1 brought a brand-new single-player mode called Invasion, so here’s everything you need to know about it, including its rewards and more.

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally out, and players’ excitement can’t get any higher after as they dive into the many arenas of the fighting game.. The latest installment in the fighting game franchise works as a soft reboot, bringing back many beloved fighters to the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Of course, Mortal Kombat 1 also debuts new features and mechanics for players to play around with, as well as a brand new single-player mode called Invasion. If you’re wondering what this mode is about, here’s everything you need to know about it.

Mortal Kombat 1 Invasion mode explained

According to PlayStation’s blog, Mortal Kombat 1’s “Invasion is a new mode where you explore a board game-like map.” This mode allows players to build a party of characters that can level up and get better equipment as the adventure goes on. While exploring different locations, players can unlock in-game currency, concept art, and other enticing rewards such as skins for different characters.

If some of these elements sound familiar, it’s because Invasion aims to gather many of the single-player modes Mortal Kombat has delivered over the years into a more rounded and entertaining experience.

The premise of Invasion involves different factions attacking realms in Mortal Kombat 1. To stop invaders, players need to move from one node to another in a board game-like map. The main objective is to find the origin of the enemy invasion, and players can obtain all sorts of items, like keys, while exploring each node.

Players face many different challenges while advancing in the Invasion mode. Each new encounter has its own set of rules and rewards, with the difficulty escalating on each node. What’s more, Invasion plays with Mortal Kombat 1’s multiversal theme and features different versions of well-known characters. Additionally, players are able to visit shops, get special relics, find secrets, and much more.

While most challenges are fights with special rules, NetherRealm Studios have designed all kinds of arcade scenarios and special matches to keep the formula fresh. Some of these include special Towers, Test Your Might mini-games, and more.

Mortal Kombat 1 Invasion mode to receive seasonal updates

Mortal Kombat’s Invasion mode will get seasonal content updates. Players face Scorpion as the main boss for the first season of Invasion, but future updates will bring different characters, factions, and realms.

According to the devs, each season lasts around six weeks. During that period, players are be able to tackle the same realm with the same boss. However, once they reach the boss and defeat it, players can go back and explore additional nodes with all the tools and enhancements they’ve acquired. This lets players find secrets and other special challenges.

After those six weeks, a whole new Invasion takes place with new challenges and a different boss. Considering Mortal Kombat 1 is getting many additional characters through DLC, players can expect them to feature in this new single-player mode as well.
