The ever-popular Minecraft is now on multiple platforms since the game has been out in the wild for some time, but you might still be wondering if Minecraft is on Steam. Here, we’ll discuss everything you need to know so you can put your mind at rest.

The largest game marketplace on PC is getting new additions every day so it is difficult to keep track of which titles have been available.

If you want to get yourself into the game, find some Diamonds, secure enchantments, and even trade with villagers, find out if you’re able to play Minecraft from Steam below.

Minecraft: Is it available on Steam?

Minecraft is not available to purchase on Steam, unfortunately. The only places you can buy Minecraft on a PC are through minecraft.net or Microsoft stores.

This is mainly due to the fact that Mojang, the company that created Minecraft, is now owned by Microsoft, and the parent company has decided not to port the game to Steam.

This may be down to the game requiring its own custom launcher that simply isn’t compatible with the likes of Steam, but it could just be because Steam does take a percentage in sales and Microsoft doesn’t want that.

However, with all this being said, all hope is not lost if you want to launch Minecraft from Steam. There is a workaround on how to do this and we’ll reveal all below.

How to add Minecraft to Steam

Even though Minecraft isn’t actually available on Steam, you can add it to your profile and play through the platform via the non-Steam game method.

To get this done, you will have to follow the steps below:

  1. First, open up Steam and hit the ‘Add a Game’ option in the bottom left of the window.
  2. You’ll then have three options available to you and the ‘Add a non-Steam game’ option is the one you’ll need to select.
  3. A new window will open showing you a variety of programs you have installed on your device. Locate Minecraft here and hit the add button.
  4. It should then be added to your account, allowing you to launch the game from Steam.
  5. If you don’t see Minecraft in that list, if you hit ‘Browse’ you can dig through the files on your device and find the application you need to add.

Even though you can’t purchase Minecraft on Steam, the above workaround to allow you to launch it from the platform may satisfy your needs. If you did do this and want to know a bunch more about the game, check out our guides below:
