Rockstar confirms GTA 6 development is underway

Rockstar Games have finally confirmed that they are working on Grand Theft Auto 6, almost nine years after the launch of the last game.

Players have been begging Rockstar Games for the next installment in the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise, but after nine years, we finally have confirmation that work is underway on GTA 6.

Over the past few years, supposed leaks and fan theories have created endless hype for the release of this game. From alleged images of a Vice City map to fans thinking they found a storyline clue in a GTA Online trailer, everyone is dying to find out more about the game. At last, we have a scrap of information that confirms the game is on its way.

In an update on the official Rockstar website, the devs stated that they were “pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”

“With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered.”

While they didn’t give any details as to when we can expect new information, Rockstar told fans that “we look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready,” instructing them to stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says that he wouldn’t be surprised to see an official announcement this year, although suggested the game might still be a few years away.

“Wouldn’t be shocked to see Grand Theft Auto VI announced later this year with a fake release date of Fall 2023 that then slips to 2024,” he tweeted.

The official confirmation of GTA 6 comes just months after claims that the game was in “development hell,” and that plans for the game had changed multiple times since development started in 2014.

Regardless, we now officially know that Rockstar Games are hard at work on the next installment in their blockbuster franchise. Unfortunately, nothing is known about GTA 6‘s features, stories, or release date at this time.
