Rockstar released the first official GTA 6 trailer on December 5 with several new details about the game. Here’s everything you need to know about GTA 6 including its release window, characters, settings, and more.

After more than 10 years since the release of GTA 5, fans are overjoyed after the release of the first trailer of GTA 6. After Rockstar’s highly anticipated announcement that broke the record for the most-liked gaming tweet, the trailer crossed 52 million views in the first 10 hours.

Even though Rockstar were tight-lipped during the development, several leaks surfaced on the internet during the time of the development, providing certain insights on the upcoming game. Now that the trailer has been released, players have a clearer picture of what to expect.

Here’s everything you need to know about GTA 6 after the reveal trailer release.

GTA 6 release window

GTA 6 will be released in 2025, as confirmed by the official reveal trailer on December 5. There has been no further announcement from the devs that would provide further clarification on the exact date of the release.

Rockstar seems to be following a tradition with the gaps between the first trailers and official releases as both the reveal trailers for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 dropped two years before launch.

GTA 6 platforms

GTA 6 will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, as confirmed by the devs. At the time of writing, there has been no further announcement of a potential PC release. It will not be released on Xbox One and PS4 either.

Following the trend set by GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s also anticipated that the new installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise will eventually make its way to PC.

However, it has been Rockstar and many other developers who have followed the same format, like Santa Monica with God of War (2018) and Insomniac with Spider-Man (2018).

What is the GTA 6 map? Setting & more

GTA 6 will be taking you to Vice City, a modern-day rendition of Miami, and will be a part of a fictional Florida-like state called Leonida. Aside from Vice City, several other locations like Kelly County and Stockyard Downtown were revealed through a few banners in the trailer.

Animals enter human-populated areas in the game.

One of the biggest takeaways from the trailer about the map is its population density, as the reveal trailer showed a lot of areas to be densely populated compared to previous GTA titles. With Florida being the inspiration behind Leonida, several animals were seen entering populated areas.

GTA 6 story & characters

The story will revolve around the franchise’s first female protagonist, Lucia. Although the devs have not revealed any concrete information about Lucia, the trailer has some interesting details about the character.

Lucia in GTA 6
Lucia is the main female lead in GTA 6.

Lucia is first seen in a prison uniform at the beginning of the trailer before committing crimes across Vice City. She also has a connection with a male protagonist, reportedly named Jason according to the leaks, with whom she is seen evading the police with a stack of cash.

GTA protagonists were never the goody two shoes of their titles, and Lucia seems to fit right in Vice City. She also has a calm demeanor, even in prison. Aside from being the first female lead, she will also be the first Latin-American lead in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Unofficial GTA 6 leaks and teases

A massive 60-page document that analyzed the 2022 leaks has listed several features GTA 6 is expected to have, with more accessible buildings being one of the major claims.

Take-Two has reportedly also filed a patent for a new locomotive technology that will bring “more diverse and lifelike animations” to Grand Theft Auto 6. This information was provided by Redditor ‘Tobbelobben30,’ who also stated that the name Tobias Kleanthous was “mentioned in the leaks.”

Kleanthous is allegedly “the lead AI game programmer at Rockstar” who was responsible for the horse animation in RDR 2. The reveal trailer has several shots that many consider to have the animation style of RDR 2 as well.

GTA 6 will reportedly have a lot more enterable buildings than GTA 5.

Rockstar insider ‘Tez2’ had also claimed that the post-launch content for GTA 6 will include new cities and a single-player DLC. Take-Two Interactive stated that GTA 6 will set creative benchmarks, so if this leak is accurate then that’s one way they could achieve that.

However, remember that most of this information is based on speculation and community rumors. We’ll make sure to update this page when Rockstar gives official details about GTA 6.
