The long, anxious wait for GTA 6 continues, although there is a bit of good news as far as the state of its development is concerned. According to a report from a reputed source, the title is in the “final stretch of development.”

GTA 6 is easily the most anticipated game release the industry has seen in quite some time. Even a series of comprehensive leaks failed to derail the game’s hype, as its first-look trailer garnered tens of millions of views within a few hours. The trailer confirmed that the game is set to arrive in 2025, but shied away from providing a specific release date.

The lack of clarity hasn’t stopped fans from hatching up theories about possible features and GTA 6’s story. Some players even spotted Easter Eggs in the small trailer and also a new transportation system. While it’s unlikely that we’ll be hearing more about the game anytime soon, a recent report surrounding Rockstar Games does provide us with a glimpse at its current status.

The report came from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who revealed that Rockstar have issued a mandate to its employees and asked them to “return to the office five days a week starting in April.” The move is reportedly for “security and productivity reasons” as GTA 6 enters the “final stretch of development.”

The report also featured a statement from Rockstar’s Head of Publishing, Jenn Kolbe, who wrote, “Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game.”

Going by this information, it looks like it is all hands on deck at the studio as they work towards meeting their 2025 target. The mention of “security reasons” also seems to suggest that Rockstar are doing everything they can to mitigate the chances of more leaks. While it’s unclear how long the final stage of development will take, players are already speculating that the game could be poised for early 2025.

It remains to be seen how long Rockstar will hold off on providing a concrete release date. Until then, check out all the vehicles we spotted in the GTA 6 trailer and why it might fail to live up to the hype.
