Fortnite's New Year

Epic Games haven’t updated the New Year’s Item Shop since 2022, and Fortnite players are more than bummed out for the lack of attention to the battle royale mode.

Fortnite has offered a variety of cosmetic items from the beginning, and as Chapter 5 Season 1 was released, players were expecting tons of new collaborations. But even with crossovers like Family Guy’s Peter Griffin and Metal Gear’s Solid Snake, fans were disappointed to see that the New Year’s Item shop wasn’t prepared to receive 2024.

Along with complaints that pointed out that the Item Shop has pushed some collabs above others, Fortnite fans called out Epic Games for still featuring 2022’s items for celebrating the holidays. “It really shows they stopped caring about the shop so hard recently,” expressed Redditor ‘Leading-Pop5059.’

Players gathered in a Reddit post called “New Year shop with no New Year’s items like this,” which showed that most items weren’t updated in almost two years. While these items are purely cosmetic and don’t have influence in terms of gameplay, even new Fortnite fans admitted that they were expecting some flairs to use during New Year’s celebrations.

“Super disappointed we didn’t get these for the New Year. This is my first year playing and was hoping to do a bit of in-game celebrating while waiting for the ball drop,” said Reddit user ‘LurkerMKIV.’

Other Fortnite fans accused Epic Games of having “stopped caring” about the battle royale and that this lack of attention to detail are lowering the QoL of the game. “It’s amazing how bad it has been I mean they could just reskin those same modems with a new number at this point it’s sad how lazy they have become,” commented Redditor ‘Errir-InvalidName.’

And that’s why Fortnite players are disappointed by this year’s Item Shop. If you want to know more about Epic Games’ battle royale, you can check Fortnite leaks that claim that Devil May Cry and Avatar collabs are on the way and what’s the orange circle in Fortnite Chapter 5.
