Fortnite has undergone many changes since the release of its Battle Royale mode, and the game never fails to bring exciting features and collaborations with every new season. However, players on Reddit feel that the game has lost its signature “silliness.”

Fortnite‘s evolution from a tower defense shooter to a massively popular Battle Royale game has been incredible. The title has managed to maintain a healthy player base, and a major reason behind this is frequent content releases.

Epic deliver new Fortnite content almost every month through seasons. The game also welcomes major events like concerts and collaborations such as the recent TMNT event. Even the gameplay is freshened up regularly through new mechanics, POIs, new weapons and attachments, and more.

All this and more keeps Fortnite from losing momentum. However, players on Reddit feel that the new features have made the game more like Call of Duty while decreasing its inherent “silliness.”

A discussion around this subject broke out following a post by user ‘check_my_cv.’ It came with the caption “I miss silly Fortnite,” and the OP explained their statement. They said, “Obviously Fortnite is not a serious game, but I found myself playing a bit less this season than I did in the last few seasons.”

“It isn’t bad that there are more realism-based weapons and mechanics, but one of the reasons my wife and I started playing together is because it was so simple and unserious looking. Blue weapon better than green weapon, purple weapon better than blue. No attachments, less serious POIs, and a more cartoony vibe with the lower resolution,” they continued.

They also drew a comparison to CoD saying, “This season has been cool, but I think I’m a little sad that it feels like CoD-lite during a lot of my matches, and I just hope that it gets some simplification in the upcoming seasons.”

Users in the comments section seemed to agree with the sentiment, with one user saying “I started playing around the vibing/no sweat season and the silliness of the world is what sold me to Fortnite. But this season has been more of a survival game than partying with friends.”

Others hoped that the upcoming Chapter 5 Season 2 would inject more silliness back into the game, “I miss some of the silly stuff as well. The one complaint I guess I have. Hopefully, next season will be silly again.”

There were also calls for the return of specific features to reignite the silliness, “Give me the hammer back, it was so stupid that it was fun.” Another user took the idea even further, “They need to do an all-silly weapon special. Hammer, Rocket ram, Infinity blade, Infinity Gauntlet, bow and arrow.”

It looks like players want Fortnite to embrace a less serious tone, and maximize the aspects that make it fun with Chapter 5 Season 2.
