Final Fantasy 14 is finally arriving on Xbox Series X|S after its Open Beta period. Here’s all you need to know to play Square Enix’s 10-year-old MMO on your Microsoft gaming system.

Final Fantasy 14 is Square Enix’s second take on the MMO genre and has been around and online for 10 years. The 1.0 version was discontinued in 2010, and A Realm Reborn was the name for the game’s re-release, also called the 2.0 update.

Originally, Final Fantasy XIV was available on PC and PlayStation 3, later moving to the PlayStation 4 and skipping Xbox completely. Xbox fans have been asking Square Enix to release an Xbox version for years, so when is it finally happening?

Here’s when Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox systems.

Final Fantasy 14 Xbox release date

Final Fantasy XIV will be released on March 21, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S, as it was announced on the official Lodestone news site.

With a successful Open Beta period, which ends right before the official release, Square Enix is ready to release the full Xbox version, which will have crossplay with PC & PlayStation players.

FFXIV Starter Edition Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perks explained

The Final Fantasy 14 Starter Edition, which includes A Realm Reborn, as well as the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions, will be available for free to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users as a Perk.

Game Pass Ultimate Perks are exclusive rewards for all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, which include many games DLCs, and consumables. Square Enix is releasing its “free trial” version through this rewards system, as the game requires a Game Pass subscription to play at all times.

How to download Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox

To download Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X|S, players simply need to head to the Microsoft Store and download it from its store page when the game releases on March 21. You will only be able to download the Starter Edition if you are an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber.

The Open Beta period only allows new accounts to join FF14 on Xbox. But, with its full release, you will be able to log in to your existing account if you own the game and its expansions on Xbox.

Final Fantasy 14 Xbox version: Who can play?

Now that the full version of Final Fantasy XIV is launching on Xbox, all players can join in the newly added platform. In the Open Beta period, only the first three expansions are available, and new players were the only ones allowed to create new accounts.

Veteran players still need to wait for the full game to release to play the Shadowbringers and Endwalker expansion content. FFXIV Open Beta release on Xbox is only for new players who want to jump into Eorzea on Xbox.
