Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to bring back the classic Golden Saucer date scene from the original title but if you’re wondering if the game features regular romance options, here’s all you need to know about romance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Even though Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth recreates many of the game’s iconic scenes, the new timeline introduced in the 2020 remake allows for plenty of new twists in the story. Many of the well-known World Map sites that you will be able to explore, such as Cosmo Canyon and Junon City, have been revealed in the trailers.

One fan-favorite sequence that is also confirmed to be returning is the Golden Saucer scene, but does this mean that Rebirth features a romance system like Starfield or Baldur’s Gate 3?

Here’s everything you need to know about romance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Is there romance in FF7 Rebirth?

No, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does not have romance options in the traditional sense, but that doesn’t mean there is no relationship system in place at all.

As mentioned earlier, the Golden Saucer date scene from the original is returning, and Cloud can visit the lively amusement park with either Aerith, Tifa, Barret, or Yuffie. Your companion for the evening is dependent on which of the four companions likes you most.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth lets players build relationships with their favorite characters.

In the original game, Cloud’s relationship with each party member was hidden, leaving players in the dark until the Golden Saucer sequence began. This time around, in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the new “Bonds of Friendship” feature will show exactly how each character feels about you.

In an interview with IGN, Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi, explained why they decided to make the feature clearer in this new adaptation: “In the original Final Fantasy 7, [the system] wasn’t made visible to the player at all. And that worked in the first game obviously because you didn’t know the date scene was coming up.”

“But obviously for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, a lot of people understand that there’s that very famous date scene on the gondola coming,” he added. “So because people sort of know where this is heading, if it was still kept in the dark and they didn’t know roughly what level of affinity they were with each character, this could be quite stressful for the players.”

The new title also gives players even more chances to build a relationship with each potential date, as there are more side activities than ever before, all of which affect your ratings with different options. Hamaguchi also mentions that fans will be able to replay the scene with each date if they wish.

So, although there aren’t permanent romance options in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are still plenty of opportunities to build a relationship with the beloved cast of characters – culminating in a date at the Golden Saucer.
