After much anticipation, the new Counter-Strike 2 is finally here. However, many fans are unable to run it on their PCs, which has led them to wonder if they can still play CSGO. Here is everything you need to know about whether you can still play CSGO or not.

Counter-Strike 2 is officially here for everyone to access, with Valve looking to improve the CS experience. The title not only brought plenty of gameplay and quality-of-life improvements but also added a new Premier mode and a CS rating system.

While the devs have allowed skins to carry over from CS:GO to CS2, many are wondering if they can still play CS:GO. And if you’re confused as to whether you can launch CS:GO now that CS2 is fully released, we’ve got the answer for you.

Is CS:GO playable after CS2’s release? CSGO Legacy update

Counter-Strike 2 has completely replaced CS:GO on Steam, but there is still a way to play Counter-Strike Global Offensive through Valve’s latest update.

The Counter-Strike development team listened to community feedback and released the CSGO Legacy Version, a frozen edition of CS:GO. This allows players who cannot play CS2 due to technical issues or prefer to continue playing CS:GO to do so through a new CS2 beta option.

You can find the CSGO Legacy Version on the CS2 betas tab.

Follow these steps in order to play the CS:GO Legacy Version:

  1. Go to your Steam Library and scroll to Counter-Strike 2.
  2. Right-click and select ‘Properties.’
  3. Click on the ‘Betas’ tab.
  4. Click on the drop-down menu for ‘Beta Participation.’
  5. Select ‘csgo_legacy – Legacy Version of CS:GO’

After you follow these steps, you’ll receive a 12 GB download for that frozen version of CS:GO. Once installed, you’ll receive a launch option window when starting Counter-Strike 2, where you can choose to launch the Legacy Version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Keep in mind that you can’t queue for Competitive Matchmaking and play on Community Servers in this demo version. However, you can play on Workshop Maps and practice offline alone.

So there you have it! That’s all you need to know about CS:GO’s status after the release of Counter-Strike 2. For more on CS2, have a look at:
