Following what players perceived as several positive modifications, Modern Warfare 3’s dev team teased improvements to the game’s UI in response to players’ persistent requests for change since the Modern Warfare 2 launch.

Modern Warfare 3‘s release is drawing near, and with it, the anticipation is growing for details about its game modes, including multiplayer, Zombies, and what lies ahead for Warzone following its integration with this year’s title.

While the dev team, Sledgehammer Games, have pleased the community by conveying numerous changes in MW3, such as the return of the slide cancel, the classic minimap, and other features, there’s still one particular concern within the community that goes back to MW2’s user interface (UI).

Modern Warfare 3 UI set to receive “meaningful refinements”

Ben Furneaux, Sledgehammer Games’ Design and UI Director, has shared several X posts regarding Modern Warfare 3’s user interface, teasing it will receive “meaningful refinements.”

“Tip: Hold your ‘the UI is the same’ hot-take until Thursday,” he stated, referring to the incoming Call of Duty Next event, which will feature the reveal of MW3’s modes, as well as multiple content creators playing the game live.

Ever since the launch of MW2, players have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the new UI system. Some players believe that this discontent stems from the integration of the franchise with Warzone Mobile, resulting in menus that are tailored for the mobile version but that are not as user-friendly for other platforms.

While SHG haven’t previously addressed this issue, the Design and UI Director has taken the initiative to explain some of their decisions and provide insight into the MW3 interface behind the scenes.

While players’ requests for a return to the vertical menu format weren’t explicitly addressed, Furneaux stated that the interface’s general flow will indeed be improved including some “meaningful refinements” players will see during the CoD Next event on October 5.

As for the specifics of the user interface in MW3, we’ll need to wait and see what the SHG team has in store.
