Black Ops 6 Operator

Black Ops 6 is set to launch on October 25, 2024, and the new installment will continue the iconic Black Ops narrative with a new campaign experience.

Led by Raven Software in collaboration with Treyarch, the teams have crafted an exhilarating and dynamic spy thriller within the Black Ops universe. So, here’s everything we know about the BO6 campaign, including details on the storyline, characters, and more.

BO6 campaign storyline

BO6 Frank Woods character
Fan-favorite character Frank Woods returns in Black Ops 6’s campaign.

The Black Ops campaign takes place in the early 1990s, continuing from the events of Black Ops Cold War and linking directly to the 1980s flashbacks players will remember from Black Ops 2. The aftermath of which left BO hero Frank Woods in “dire circumstances.”

The campaign depicts the collapse of the Soviet Union following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the conclusion of the Cold War, leaving the United States as the sole remaining superpower. During this period, the Gulf War was a major focus of global attention.

After a tough call is made and an operation goes wrong, Woods and Marshall are suspended, ultimately forcing them to go rogue and trust each other to get to the bottom of what’s going on. They’ll build their team including new characters, to fight former allies who are now enemies.

Campaign characters

  • “Case” (playable character)
  • Frank Woods
  • Troy Marshall
  • Jane Harrow
  • Felix Neumann
  • Sevati Dumas
  • Russell Adler

During the Gamescom reveal of the Most Wanted mission, we finally got the nickname of the main protagonist that the player will take control of, “Case.” We don’t know what he looks like, or his background, but we know he’s a key member of the team under Troy Marshall.

The reveal had the name William “Case” Calderon, but many speculate that players will be able to pick the full name. The nickname “Case” is given to you by default, just like Bell in Cold War.

Call of Duty campaigns will often have multiple playable characters, so there’s a chance that more will be revealed, but Case is the only one we know about for now.

Black Ops 6 campaign locations & combat

As per the BO6 reveal blog, “mission variety is a key component” in the campaign. The team at Raven Software crafted “individual missions from the ground up,” including branching paths to give you more freedom and plenty of different locations.

In one of the missions revealed in the BO6 Direct event, players infiltrate an old sewer system beneath a luxurious casino in southern Europe. Another mission places players in a large-scale battle at a palace in the Iraqi desert.

There’s also plenty happening on US soil, as the Most Wanted campaign mission features the rescue of Russel Adler from CIA hands in Washington D.C.

The BO6 campaign emphasizes diverse combat strategies and replayability in every mission, allowing players the freedom to approach them in various ways. This extends to interactions, where operatives engage in conversations, negotiations, and tactics to achieve different outcomes.

Black Ops 6 Most Wanted mission

The Most Wanted mission sees you (playing as Case) infiltrate a top-secret CIA base under Washington’s Capitol Station alongside your Black Ops team members Troy Marshall, Felix Neumann, and Sevating Dumas. The goal of the mission is to rescue Russell Adler.

The devs broke down the tasks involved in the mission: “You’re to show up to a political fundraiser, obtain retinal identification from a senator who has the clearance to enter the Black Site, and grab Adler from the Black Site before anyone knows what’s happening.”

As you can see from the preview of the mission in the clip above, players will be given the freedom to choose how to tackle certain aspects.

When the mission takes a sudden turn, you can either approach the challenge by infiltrating the Black Site “weapons hot” or by “silent running.”

The gameplay walkthrough features an in-depth look at the new omnimovement system and how new Equipment like the Disruptor and Homing Knife will come into play.

Here’s what to expect from the new Disruptor: “Throwable Tactical device that stuns enemies after you charge it to increase the proximity radius.” Meanwhile, the Homing Knife is “a Lethal blade that’s steerable in the air, and explodes on contact, or when you detonate it.”

Safehouse feature explained

BO6 Manor safe house campaign
The Manor acts as a safe house in the BO6 campaign where players can carry out different actions.

The Black Ops 6 campaign will feature a Safehouse between each campaign mission, inspired by the KGB’s Black Site from the 1950s and ’60s. It offers more exploration and character development opportunities compared to the Berlin Safehouse in Black Ops Cold War.

In the BO6 Safehouse, players can engage in target practice, “uncover hidden secrets, and receive briefings from the ever-acerbic Master Sergeant Frank Woods.”

After exploring the mansion, players can proceed to the upgraded Evidence Board for additional intel and mission briefings. This includes the “Campaign Outline,” providing deeper insights into missions and allowing analysis of evidence collected from past operations.

All in all, that’s everything we know so far about the campaign. Be sure to check out all of the BO6 editions and pre-order bonuses if you’re looking to get your hands on the beta early.
