The devs have confirmed that Warzone 2 Season 2 will mark the return of the popular Resurgecne mode. But for those unfamiliar, what is Resurgence in Warzone and how is it different from the regular battle royale mode?

Warzone 2 players are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting which mode to play. The usual choice of Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads playlists are on offer, as well as the Tarkov-inspired DMZ mode for something a little different.

Infinity Ward have now also confirmed that Resurgence mode will make its long-awaited return in the delayed Warzone 2 Season 2, along with a brand-new map for players to learn. But those who never played the original Warzone might be wondering what all the fuss is about.

Here’s a breakdown of Resurgence mode in Warzone and the key differences from the normal battle royale experience.

Resurgence mode is a faster-paced alternative to the traditional Warzone gameplay where players are allowed to respawn after they die, rather than being sent to the Gulag or permanently eliminated.

As long as a member of your squad is still alive 20 seconds after your death, you can immediately rejoin the action and continue racking up kills. This timer can also be reduced if your remaining squad earns eliminations, continues looting, and opens up containers.

However, toward the end of the match respawns are disabled, so keep an eye out for the announcement before running into a gunfight.

Resurgence has a much smaller player count compared to regular Warzone, with lobbies consisting of 40-50 players instead of 150. To make up for the smaller lobbies, the mode takes place on a more compact map custom-built for Resurgence.

In Warzone 1, this was the fan-favorite Rebirth Island, inspired by Alcatraz Island, and later Fortune’s Keep. The Warzone 2 Resurgence map is yet to be officially revealed by the devs, but a series of leaked images have given us an idea of the layout and POIs.

As always, the goal is to be the last team standing by the end of the match, but the smaller maps combined with the shrinking circle deliberately force teams to fight it out more often with very little time to stop and breathe.

Warzone 2 also introduced a number of new mechanics, such as the splitting circles and AI Strongholds, so we’ll have to wait and see how these are incorporated when Resurgence returns in Season 2.
