Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that the game’s Legends will grow older as time moves on, as they aim to further develop the Apex Legends universe and lore.

If there’s one thing that matters to Respawn devs, it’s prioritizing the game’s Legends and their narratives to create a captivating Apex Legends universe that fans can thoroughly engage with.

In order to deepen the game’s universe and lore, Respawn have recently announced that existing Legends will experience gradual aging. This initiative was first subtly revealed in February when the ages of all the Legends were secretly adjusted by 1-2 years.

Given how game development works for other titles, the majority of fans didn’t expect this to happen, assuming Legends would remain ageless for the duration of the game’s existence.

The game currently has a diverse group of Legends with a broad spectrum of ages, with the youngest one, Vantage, being merely 19 years old, and the oldest, Revenant, standing at a remarkable 359 years.

How will age progression work in Apex Legends?

Respawn clarified age progression in Apex Legends will be at a slower pace in the Apex universe compared to the real world. Although specifics weren’t provided, based on the latest age update, it looks like time flows at nearly half the rate within the game.

Considering this, it’s intriguing to contemplate how the characters’ aging process will influence the storyline and the varying gameplay implications it could have on both younger and older Legends.

Given the importance that Respawn’s dev team allocates to the narrative, they could probably face a challenge in maintaining both the story progression alongside the needs of an active live service game like Apex.

However, they did confirm that they wanted to keep on developing the ongoing fan-favorite narrative between Loba and Revenant, with the recent Legend rework in Season 18 delivering a valuable chance to enrich this narrative, benefiting both gameplay and storytelling objectives.
