Apex Legends dev responds to fans

Apex Legends dev Jason McCord explained on Twitter why Respawn will not be lifting the level cap from 500 to a higher amount, but also teased some new ideas for where the battle royale will go next.

When you drop into Apex Legends, you have a chance to become the fiercest warrior in Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale. If you put enough hours into the game, you’ll be able to earn the top player level of 500.

This was initially limited to level 100, but Respawn lifted the cap all the way to 500 following fans’ requests. Now that players have reached the new level, they want the devs to raise it once again but Respawn has no plans to do that anytime soon.

Respawn will not lift the Level 500 cap in Apex Legends

One Apex fan took to Twitter on January 18, and asked about increasing the level cap. This query was met with a response from Jason McCord, the Design Director at Respawn Entertainment.

“Some day, maybe,” McCord wrote. “I’m not personally convinced that making that number bigger is the best way to feel progression in the game. We have some ideas.”

It’s not clear what exactly these ideas are that he’s referring to, but this could be hinting at something like a brand new prestige system coming to the battle royale in an future update.

That would be an interesting change to Apex Legends, and would certainly encourage players to level themselves up faster as they would have a new rank as their goal. However, this is all just speculation at the moment.

Respawn Entertainment is known to stand by its decisions, but it’s possible that this could change due to the demands of the players. For example, the devs said that they won’t ever add Ranked Solos, but some new leaks suggest otherwise.

All we can do is wait around to see what Respawn decides. They might not increase the top player level cap anytime soon, but we know that they’re at least aware of what fans want. If there’s any new developments on this then we’ll be sure to update you.
