Starfield players claim Bethesda “doesn’t understand” temperatures

Many Starfield players are confused by how the devs have handled spacesuits and temperatures in the RPG as they feel the in-game effects don’t make any sense.

Although Starfield has lost a bit of its hype since its September launch, many still feel that it is one of the biggest titles of 2023. However, some players are unhappy with some mechanics as many feel that there are several immersion-breaking flaws in the game.

Some players are not happy with how the devs have made the spacesuits as they feel that the status effect build-ups during cold temperatures don’t always make sense. Many players have complained about this since the release of the game and the issue arises in the community yet again.

Reddit user ‘Dr_Taverner’ posted about this issue claiming that Bethesda “doesn’t understand Celcius.” The OP mentioned that they were “getting frostbite inside a full space suit at -10°C,” which they explained should not happen.

They explained their point by saying that “-10 is not that cold” as they were in a full spacesuit. As Starfield is a space game, there would be various planets with extreme temperatures and spacesuits generally should help people to combat the conditions.

The OP wanted to know if there was “some insane, suit-penetrating wind on the atmosphere-free moon” that they were getting frostbite from at -10 degrees Celsius. Others went as far as claiming “Bethesda doesn’t understand spacesuits.”

People shared their experiences by saying that they also got “lung damage” in their spacesuits near toxic gas clouds. As spacesuits have their own insulation and breathing system, they feel that this should not happen in general.

Others claimed that they got “corrosive damage” from Argon, which is essentially an inert gas that is generally harmless. Players feel that this feature “doesn’t make sense” and the entire environmental damage system “needs to be overhauled” in Starfield.

Although it is unclear if Bethesda really plans an overhaul for this system, many players are hoping for a patch addressing the issue.
