Dream House in Starfield

In Starfield, you can build a colony in space by owning multiple houses on various planets. The game also lets you customize them to make them unique. So here’s everything you need to know about decorating houses in Starfield.

Tons of star systems consisting of over a thousand unique planets means you’ll never run out of things to explore in Starfield. To add to it, Bethesda have also given you the option to build Outposts or houses and set up a colony on a planet.

The game‘s comprehensive customization feature also lets you tweak a house according to your liking. This includes decorating it with the items in your inventory.

Here’s all you need to know about decorating houses in Starfield, including how to add inventory items.

How to customize your house in Starfield

To begin customizing your house in Starfield, you must interact with the “Decorate” panel on the wall. This small rectangular panel will usually be found on the ground floor of the house, but it’s easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

Interacting will bring up the Modify menu, where you’ll be able to manually craft and place items around your home.

Realtor in Starfield
Starfield players can buy houses by visiting a realtor.

Certain essentials like beds and sofas will be unlocked from the get-go, but more lavish furniture will need resources to craft. Meanwhile, other decorations will need to be unlocked by completing missions or Research Projects.

Aside from furniture, Starfield players can also fill their houses with useful features like Research Stations and Job Boards, giving you a convenient place to access anything you might need. Items can be moved around freely as long as there is enough space to fit them and they don’t clash with any existing furniture.

How to decorate houses with inventory items in Starfield

While exploring Starfield, players might come across an item they want to use in their house that doesn’t appear on the Modify menu. Luckily, you can still place it in your house with a few extra steps.

Here’s how to decorate houses with inventory items in Starfield:

  1. Pick up the item and add it to your inventory.
  2. Travel to the house you want to decorate.
  3. Drop the item somewhere in the house.
  4. Head over to the Decorate panel and interact.
  5. Use the Modify menu to move the item to the right spot.

This feature should allow every Starfield player to fully personalize their house with any random decoration they find, instead of being limited to a few presets.
