Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings event: Dates, Rayquaza featured attack, challenges, research rewards

Pokemon Go is celebrating the Primal Rumblings event and here’s all you need to know about it, including dates, Raid Bosses, challenges, and rewards.

In anticipation of the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn Global event, trainers can enjoy a downsized version of it with the Primal Rumblings event. Niantic recommends players take the opportunity to stock up on catching supplies and familiarize themselves with Hoenn Pokemon during the event.

Pokemon Go players will find new Raids, spawns, and tasks to do to get interesting rewards before Go Tour: Hoenn – Global, so let’s see what this ongoing event has to offer.

Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings event dates

Pokemon Go players can take part in the Primal Rumbligs event from Wednesday, February 22 at 10 AM to Friday, February 24 at 10 PM local time.

The Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn Global event will run on February 25 and February 26 from 10 AM to 6 PM local time. So don’t worry if you can’t catch all Hoenn Pokemon you want during the Primal Rumblings event, you’ll get a second chance.

Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings wild encounters

The following Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild during the Primal Rumblings event in Pokemon Go:

  • Treecko
  • Torchic
  • Mudkip
  • Wurmple
  • Whismur
  • Numel
  • Barboach
  • Grovyle
  • Combusken
  • Marshtomp
  • Absol

Grovyle, Combusken, and Marshtomp will be harder to find and are the only ones that won’t appear in shiny form. Absol will have an increased spawn rate at noon during ‘A Grim Omen?’ special 5-minute event.

Below you’ll find the complete list of Raid Bosses you can face during the Primal Rumblings event in Pokemon Go:

1-Star Raids

  • Treecko
  • Torchic
  • Mudkip

3-Star Raids

  • Grovyle
  • Combusken
  • Marshtomp

5-Star Raids

  • Rayquaza

Mega Raids

  • Mega Latios
  • Mega Latias

Rayquaza caught in 5-Star Raids during the Primal Rumblings event in Pokemon Go will know the new featured Dragon-type attack Breaking Swipe.

Trainers can try their luck with this particular Rayquaza until Wednesday, March 1 at 10 AM local time.

Breaking Swipe has 50 power in Trainer Battles and 35 in Gyms and Raids. Niantic confirmed this move decreases the opponent’s Attack stat when used.

Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings Field Research tasks and rewards

The Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings event also features a new Field Research for players to earn useful items in preparation for Go Tour Hoenn:

As with any other Field Research, you’ll have to spin PokeStops and Gym Photo Discs to get these tasks.

Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings Collection Challenge

A Primal Rumblings Collection Challenge is also active in Pokemon Go. Here’s what you need to do to claim the rewards:

  • Catch a Treecko
  • Catch a Torchic
  • Catch a Mudkip
  • Evolve Grovyle into Sceptile
  • Evolve Combusken into Blaziken
  • Evolve Marshtomp into Swampert

Once you complete these tasks, you’ll be rewarded with 10 Ultra Balls and a Rocket Radar.

Pokemon Go Primal Rumblings Bonuses

From the beginning to the end of the Primal Rumblings event in Pokemon Go, players will have an active bonus that grants 2x XP for evolving Pokemon.
