A fan-favorite Legendary looks all set to make its highly anticipated return to Pokemon Go soon, based on several clues from ongoing and recent Raids.

This Pokemon is none other than the powerful Lugia, one of the most sought-after finds in the game thanks to its dominance in the Master League. While it has been missing since October 2023, players are sure it will return as soon as August 2024.

Users vouched for Lugia headlining August’s 5-Star Raids in the comments section of a post on The Silph Road subreddit. This emerged from the fact that its counterpart in the Gen 2 games, Ho-Oh, is headlining these Raid battles till July 8.

But, that’s not all. In the mainline games, Ho-Oh is the master of the Legendary Beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune, while Lugia rules over the Bird trio of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

Ho-Oh took over Raids after the Beasts had their spotlight and with two of the Birds up for grabs in June and July, trainers stated that Lugia would “make sense” in August.

But, there is more than meets the eye, as a fan added, “There was Shadow Lugia in the trailer for this Season so it’s probably the Shadow Raid weekend.”

To this, another pointed out that the trailer featured an Apex Shadow Lugia, a stronger version thanks to its signature move, Aeroblast, buffed to higher base power. With the ongoing Shared Skies Season wrapping up at the end of August, it seems pretty obvious that this coveted Legendary will be available.

Keep in mind that Shadow Raid Weekend is not the same as Giovanni‘s Legendary, and the Team Go Rocket Boss is speculated to have Shadow Rayquaza in his arsenal.

If you’re looking for a good counter to beat Lugia, be sure to catch Mega Tyranitar, using either its Rock or Dark-type moves to get the job done.
