Cosmog and Cosmoem in Pokemon Go

Cosmog is a unique Legendary Pokemon that players can evolve in Pokemon Go. If you’re wondering how to evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem to get Solgaleo or Lunala, we’ve got you covered.

While most Legendary Pokemon have no evolutions and can be encountered in 5-Star Raids in Pokemon Go, Cosmog is an exception to the rule. The Nebula Pokemon can only be obtained through special methods and, on top of that, it can evolve two times to reach either of its two final forms.

If you’re wondering how to evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem in Pokemon Go, here’s everything you need to know, including how to get Solgaleo or Lunala, their shiny availability, and more.

How to get Cosmog in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go players could get Cosmog by completing either the ‘A Cosmic Companion’ or the ‘Starry Skies’ Special Research, but these are no longer available. The first Research was released in 2022, while the latter was part of the Solstice Horizons event in 2023. Players had to log in during a limited time period to get access to the Special Research.

Since Necrozma is debuting during Pokemon Go Fest 2024 alongside its fusions, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, players believe a new Special Research to get Cosmog is coming soon.

We’ll update this guide once a new method to get Cosmog arrives in the game.

How to evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem in Pokemon Go

To evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem, Pokemon Go players need to spend 25 Cosmog Candy.

The ‘A Cosmic Companion’ Special Research rewarded players with Cosmog Candy, but the Starry Skies didn’t. We recommend using a Pinap or Silver Pinap Berry to catch Cosmog and then set it as your buddy to earn Candy by walking. However, since Cosmog is a Legendary, you’ll have to walk 20km to get just one Candy.

How to evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo or Lunala in Pokemon Go

Once you have Cosmoem in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to spend 100 Candy to evolve it into either Solgaleo or Lunala.

If you want Solgaleo, you have to evolve Cosmoem during the day. If you want Lunala, you have to evolve Cosmoem during the night. Each Pokemon has its own button for evolving, so there’s no way to go wrong here.

Niantic haven’t revealed if players will be able to get another Cosmog through any other methods in the future, so this is your only chance at getting either Solgaleo or Lunala in Pokemon Go.

Solgaleo & Lunala in Pokemon Go: Which evolution is best?

Lunala is better than Solgaleo in Pokemon Go thanks to having only two weaknesses you need to worry about. However, the decision is entirely up to you and your preferences, as both species have many similarities.

Lunala’s Psychic/Ghost-type combination makes it weak against Dark and Ghost-type attacks, although it’s a double weakness (4x). On the other hand, Solgaleo is a Psychic/Steel-type Pokemon, meaning it’s weak against Ground, Ghost, Fire, and Dark-type moves. It’s worth noting that Solgaleo boasts ten resistances in Pokemon Go, while Lunala has just four.

Both Legendaries have 255 ATK, 191 DEF, and 264 STA and can deal STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) with Psychic-type attacks. Solgaleo has access to Fire, Grass, Steel, and Psychic-type moves, while Lunala can learn Flying, Psychic, Ghost, and Fairy-type attacks.

Both species are powerful, and their traits are also extremely similar. Many trainers choose the evolution based on their designs, while others are thinking about fusing them with Necrozma. In that case, you should consider which fusion will have more uses for you in either PvP or PvE to make the right decision.

Can Cosmog be shiny in Pokemon Go?

No, shiny Cosmog isn’t available in Pokemon Go, which means you can’t get shiny versions of Cosmoem, Solgaleo, or Lunala either.

We’ll make sure to update this section once shiny Cosmog debuts in the mobile game.
