Does Tekken 8 have microtransactions? Here’s everything you need to know about in-game purchases in Tekken 8.

It has been nearly nine years since the last numbered entry in the Tekken franchise. Plenty has changed with Tekken 8, and microtransactions have become increasingly common in fighting games, with both Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 featuring them.

There are a lot of new and exciting things in Tekken 8, from a packed roster that includes new characters to a brand-new mode. The inclusion of in-game purchases, however, may sour or enhance the experience for you, so here’s whether Tekken 8 features microtransactions.

Tekken 8: Does it have microtransactions?

Tekken 8 does not currently have microtransactions, however, during the dev stream on February 20, 2024, Bandai Namco revealed that the game will be getting an in-game shop and a new currency called Tekken Coins, which players can purchase with real money.

This new shop will be available late-February to early-March 2024, and the devs revealed that players will be able to purchase cosmetics such as Legacy skins, with classic outfits for certain characters.

The reason the devs are introducing microtransactions to the game is to keep it “fresh” and make it a “better game,” as they said on the Tekken Talk on February 20.

Some players are slightly more skeptical about Tekken 8 having a store with in-game purchases, as microtransactions don’t have the best reputation, but we’ll have to wait and see how it’s received once it goes live.

That’s pretty much everything in terms of Tekken 8’s microtransactions. The game is set to get its first DLC character soon in the Year 1 update, so stay tuned for more news.
