EA have teamed up with Marvel to announce that their long-rumored Black Panther game is in development, exciting comic book fans around the world. Here’s everything we know about EA’s Black Panther game so far.

In recent years, comic book fans have been treated to plenty of high-quality superhero games based on their favorite characters. The Batman Arkham games kickstarted the trend, with Spider-Man 2 set to arrive later this year and Wolverine still to come.

Now, EA have announced that another iconic Marvel hero will be getting the AAA treatment, as a Black Panther game is in development. While work on the project is still in the early stages, a handful of key details have been confirmed.

Here’s everything we know about EA’s Black Panther game, including who will be developing it and how it might play.

Is there a Black Panther release date?

There is currently no official release date for Black Panther, as the blog from EA announcing the project revealed that the game is still “early in development with a long road ahead.”

While the devs didn’t give any hint on a possible release window, 2024 seems like the earliest possible date that players could get their hands on Black Panther, but 2025 or beyond seems more likely.

We’ll be sure to update this section with any more release date information as and when they’re announced.

Black Panther developer

Black Panther is being developed by a new EA studio, Cliffhanger Games. The team is comprised of devs that worked on Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, as well as other franchises such as Halo, God of War, and Call of Duty.

Do we know which platforms Black Panther will be on?

It hasn’t been confirmed which platforms Black Panther is being developed for, but both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S seem like safe bets. The game doesn’t seem to be exclusive to any one platform, so a PC version is also extremely likely.

Given that Black Panther is still presumably years away from hitting shelves, and other Marvel titles like Spider-Man 2 have focused on the current generation of consoles, don’t be surprised to see it skip PS4 and Xbox One altogether.

That being said, nothing has been revealed at the time of writing, so we’ll update this section with full platform details when they are available.

Black Panther gameplay & story details

EA’s Black Panther will be a single-player action-adventure game that uses a third-person perspective and will seemingly take place in Wakanda. The story will be an “original” narrative from Cliffhanger Games that doesn’t appear to be adapting any specific storyline from the comics.

The announcement blog offered very little more in terms of gameplay and story details, but lead developer, Kevin Stephens, did explain some of the goals the team have for the project.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” Stephens said. “Wakanda is a rich SuperHero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”
