Epic Games unvaulted a fan-favorite weapon that many Fortnite players considered to have the potential to finally counter the Ballistic Shield. Here’s what the Fortnite community has been talking about.

Fortnite has a series of rotations that helps make the weapons and tools’ meta fresh and also allows devs to fine-tune them for the content introduced in new Seasons. However, Epic Games don’t always go big with the announcement when they unvault items, and after its latest hotfixes, players were stunned to find out about the return of a fan-favorite from Chapter 4 Season 2.

While looking for chests and exploring the Lavish Lair area, Redditor ‘Aussieman9669’ was surprised to find a fully functional Lock On Pistol. “Thought it was weird and Epic probably just made a mistake,” they said in a Reddit post called “Just found a Lock On Pistol in Chapter 5.”

Players quickly informed the user that the Lock On Pistol was mysteriously unvaulted and many theorized it has been available since the latest update.

Not everyone was happy with the news of having the “Lock On Pistol” back in Chapter 5 Season 1, since fans claimed that it’s almost impossible to counter during ranked. “It just melts and takes little skill to just aim in someone’s general vicinity and hold a button. It’s especially stupid in no-builds,” said user ‘Enrix34.’

While many players said that it’s still helpful for scanning bushes and other places that can potentially be used for hiding, users reported that it is so rare to find that it’s difficult to know its real potential in Chapter 5. “Suuuper rare. Just played for about 2 hours, only saw two the entire time,” said user ‘lman777.’

However, Fortnite players were especially interested in seeing if the “Lock On Pistol” is finally the counter they’ve been waiting for the Ballistic Shield since there are currently only a few methods to face it. While players have been having a difficult time finding it, some shared their unsuccessful attempts: “I’ve been TRYING to use it against the shield but finding shield users AND the gun is hard as f*ck,” said the OP.

And that’s everything on the mysterious unvaulted weapon that shocked Fortnite players. If you want to know more about Epic Games’ battle royale, you can check why fans are divided over one-shot Snipers or why users are slamming “awful” Assault Rifle spawns.
